Discussing books earlier, looked at my copy of Slan by A.E. Van Vogt to see when it was from. 1962 apparently, and it has a railway ticket, presumably used as a bookmark by the previous owner. It is 30 years old and still says "British Rail"

Guard: "How are they setting up the scaffold? Is it a beheading or a hanging?"

Guard: "It's a beheading. Hanging's too slow for a Demon..."
Guard: "Really? Shoot! I had my money on a hanging!"

Ernst looks horrified because he realises he's not going to get a trial after all

Guard: "I thought the last Demon they beheaded broke the guillotine when he hardened his skin..."

Guard: "Heh, yeah... They still haven't fixed it. They'll use the old fashioned block and axe. No chance of that happening THIS time, he's got anti-magic cuffs!"

Guard: "Heh, good! Oughta be a nice crowd for that one! C'mon, we'd better get back to patrols."

The guards leave, and Ernst clutches his head in anguish

Ernst: "...no..."

Daxxon is vengeful about the kidnap of his boyfriend.

Daxxon: "WHERE ARE THEY?! Where's Jakob, and where are the people who took him?!"

Daryil: "Underneath Grunmore. Look for any abandoned house in Kingsfield Road, most of them have a hidden lift down into the complex. But I suspect they've warded it all to prevent Taun's agents getting inside."
Daxxon: "DAMMIT!"

Daryil: "I know, Dax... But we can probably get in using their jump devices. Yvonne should have the coordinates. Ashley, how is our prototype?"
Ashley: "The copy? So far it's worked in the lab..."

Nigel appears on the screen, Daryil looks at him oddly

Daryil: "Nigel...? Is there something wrong? Did Lady Finch escape?"
Nigel: "She's fine. Just letting you know."

Daryil: "Good. Now-"

An alarm goes off, and Nigel looks around wildly. The screen splits three ways to add a second Nigel with a big gash on his forehead.

Nigel: "She... She escaped..."

Fiskul: "They had a spotter helicopter, mind. And they'll likely have sent for a truck to haul your carcass back to Atlantia. If they needed help, they'd have got it. And if they're dead... Well... Don't mess with dragons, right...?"

Mermul: "If they crashed it themselves, it's not your fault..."
Mermul: (Wait, why am I reassuring the personification of evil...?)

Mermul: "Hold on... How did you even GET me to safety?!"
Fiskul: "I stole their meat wagon. Drove it here myself, with you strapped to the back."

Mermul: "That's NOT funny!"
Fiskul: "Would've been, if it was true!"

And for those wondering, this is the single-page version I mentioned last week. It had a lot of cuts to the dialogue from the original written story to make it fit.

"What is it, Mary?"

Mary, looking excited. Steve, supiciously
"There's a dead guy in the basement!"
"That would be the prisoner I just executed, right?"

Mary, pleading hopefully
"Can I have him? Pretty please?"

Steve, irritably, maybe looking back at his desk dismissively
"You ate half an hour ago, Mary."
"No, no! I only need the head! He's not a bandit, he doesn't have a bounty! He's got no resale value!"

Steve, disgusted. Mary, eyes shining
"You want to eat his head...? Grow up, Mary! That's a cliche act of pointless maliciousness only a teenage demon would even consider!"
"No! I want to carve it! He'll make a beautiful Hallows Eve decoration!"

Steve, angrily. Mary pouts
"Absolutely not! Dammit, Mary! Killing someone without a bounty doesn't make them a free-for-all, it makes things much, MUCH worse! It's a paperwork nightmare! I have to JUSTIFY it, and if his head has been turned into a fucking YULETIDE DECORATION, you'll be explaining to the King why you should stay out of jail!"
"Gods dammit!"

Steve, patiently. Mary is disappointed but accepts the plan
"SO! This is what we'll do, Mary. First, you'll put him in the cooler. ALL of him, no 'saving bits for later'. After the inquest, we'll offer to swap his body for Roger, so his widow has something to bury. If that fails, THEN I'll consider your proposal for disposing of the remains. Okay...?"
"It'll have to do..."

Commander Steve is not pleased about Mary asking to turn an executed criminal's head into a prop for Halloween.

Steve: "ABSOLUTELY NOT! Dammit, Mary! Killing someone without a bounty doesn't make them a free-for-all, it makes things much, MUCH worse!"

Steve: "It's a paperwork nightmare! I have to JUSTIFY it! I'll have to file a report, send photos of the body AND the head, send the local courts a recording of the judgement, witness statements and everything!"

Steve: "...And if they found out his head has been turned into a fucking YULETIDE DECORATION, YOU'LL be explaining to the magister why you should stay out of jail!"
Mary: "Gods dammit!"

Steve: "This is what we're going to do, Mary. You are going to put him in the cooler. Head AND body, both whole and unmutilated. No 'saving bits for later'."

Steve: "I will send a message to this Queen Featherstone, offering to repatriate his remains in exchange for those of Roger, as soon as the inquest is over. Mrs Falstein deserves that much at least, something to bury."

Steve: "If they can't or won't, then - and only then - will the question of disposing of the remains come up, and I will be willing to consider your proposal then. HAPPY?"
Mary: "It'll have to do..."

I've seen these things in the supermarket for a while, discovering that they literally have "Product name: 'Orion' Choco Boy" on the back like some kind of generic spec sheet finally made me take the plunge.
The fact that they had all congealed into some hideous blob was the icing on the cake

Notably it includes beef tallow, and is made in a factory that also processes crustaceans, eggs, fish and peanuts

Photo of the mess inside the package. Instead of having a bunch of chocolate mushrooms with biscuit stems as promised, the whole lot have melted together into two large masses with one solitary choco-boy that broke off.

This is particularly interesting as it was purchased in winter.

I am still annoyed that I missed the split-screen effect wasn't in the draft page, and adding it retroactively was a nightmare

In his office, Daryil stands up and makes a decisive move

Daryil: "Right. I know exactly what I must do next."

Daryil goes to the calendar where he'd been ticking off days he liked, and turns the latest tick into a cross.
Then he calls up Nigel, head of security, splitting the screen with Ashley

Daryil: "Nigel, what's the situation?"
Nigel: "The attackers seem to have left, but we're still on high alert. I'm organising a roll-call to see if anyone's missing."

Daryil: "Very good. I know you're busy, but can you check on Lady Finch and Hayley? Top priority. We need to make sure they're still in our custody."

Nigel: "At once, my lord."

Daryil: "Sheila, Syd... Can you fetch Illiath here, please? Be careful, in case there are stragglers."
Syd: "Yes, sir!"

My bad, it wasn't space invaders, it was a side shooter. The player is a dick that shoots at young women and they explode into the letters F,U,C,K. Sprites 16, 17 and 19-23 are default ones from the game designer package. I remember being offended as a kid when I found this on the cassette

Xerian: "'The voices in your head'...? That's usually considered a sign of insanity!"
Quirk: "I'm a protogen. My cyber-implants are all loaded up with combat 'wares to make me the perfect killer."

Well, this is was a joint venture, if that helps - Lines commissioned from @cybercatart.bsky.social - colour and lighting by myself, using the process I usually use for the comics.

Robotic jaguar Y-RAY as drawn by Cybercat, and coloured by myself. He has gloss black armour, red glowing eyes and baby-blue claws, which he chose the colour of himself. He has adopted a menacing crouch, which may or may not mean anything since he is a security guard and not a rampaging monster.

Jakob is reduced to tears by the revelation that Niall is Daryil's son and not his own descendant. The Professor watches, amused by Jakob's discomfort.

Jakob: "Where does that leave us now, Niall? Now that Daryil is your father... Whatever you decide... I just... want you to know that I've always loved you, always tried to do the best for you, and I hope that we can still be close to each other..."

Niall: "COME ON! You're being ridiculous! You think I'd storm out of Jayhawk and cut you out of my life, just because we got confused about who shagged who? YOU SAVED MY LIFE!"

Niall: "Okay, so this is new and unexpected. I'm strangely pleased to learn that I'm the direct descendant of a Clan Leader. But Dad... Uh, I mean Jakob..."

Niall: "You never claimed to be my father. You were my great-grandfather, or so we thought. But you ADOPTED ME. You became my father THEN, and this revelation doesn't change that. It leaves us just where we were before!"

They hug each other tenderly, and then Daryil ruins it all.

Daryil: "Of course, if you're not directly related, that opens the door for some nice hot-"
Jakob and Niall: "NO!"

That time when I slapped Britte for bullying her sister, and Nahagliiv decided this meant she had offended his Lord and had to be destroyed at all costs.

This is because the player had swatted her earlier while she was bullying her sister. This marked her as an enemy of the player, and Nahagliiv, who had been patrolling the skies up until this point, decided she was a threat to me and had to be eliminated.

This is Krosulhah acknowledging the player's lordship, a little tweak I added to the Sweet Roll Devour mod a while back

Modded Skyrim screenshot, where the player, a khajiit wearing suspiciously shiny Dark Brotherhood armour, is standing on a building occupied by the dragon Krosulhah.
The dragon truce provided by the Sweet-Roll-Devour mod has been enabled, and as a result, Krosulhah is staring at the player and saying "Dovahkiin, Thuri!" instead of the generic "Speak, if you have aught to say worth the listening" line.
The striking part of this is that Krosulhah has craned his neck into an inverted U-shape and his head is upside-down as he considers the player.

This was made with Play-As-A-Dragon SE and Sweet-Roll-Devour, plus the now-rare "AG Shiny Brotherhood skins" mod. One or both of the dragon mods has made the NPC dragons non-hostile.

I just dug out my copy of Foxtrot to see when the future section in "Get 'Em Out By Friday" was supposed to happen.
It was 2012. Which, to be fair, was 40 years ahead at the time, and I am glad they got that bit wrong.

Fiskul: "I didn't WANT it to! I LIKE the world! All by friends live there. I mean... Well, I did try devouring a mountain actually, but it tasted TERRIBLE. Yech! It rather put me off the whole idea."

Mermul: "...I don't believe this..."

Fiskul: "Your beliefs aren't any of my business. But NOWHERE in any of the ancient texts does it say how long the devouring of the world is supposed to TAKE."

Fiskul: "I cannot die, so I've got a lot of time on my claws. Once the sun has become a red giant and the oceans boil away, maybe I'll eat the world THEN. It's not going to be much use to anyone else like that, right...?"

Mermul: "I guess not. Though... I'm starting to wonder if you're crazy. No offence, but delusions of grandeur would be a more rational explanation, right...?"

Xerian and Lautrec glance at each other uncertainly.

Quirk: "I was built to be an assassin, but... I guess I didn't make the grade. Not sure what happened, but clearly I escaped being scrapped somehow."
