These animals are a reflection of my nature - esp Coach (on the left). Constantly on the go - brain never stops; wants to do all the things all the time; anxious; gets overwhelmed; loves food; loves to be loved; faithful; funny...
Pippin (Vet Girl's cat) is bossy & demanding - also like me

I am uncertain what this means as I don't understand the award system in France but my French publisher is pretty pleased. I 'think' it means it's passed the first hurdle ie is considered worthy to be part of the pool from which 6 titles will be shortlisted & those 6 judged by 1/2 million kids

Big news from France:
Charlie T has been showcased at the Bibliothèque nationale de France as part of Les Incorruptibles Pages Éduc, the lead-up to France’s biggest youth reading award, where over 1/2 a mil students vote for their favourite books. Few nzcya books ever reach this stage, so it’s huge

And this is the beautiful hearted and incredibly talented translator of Charlie: Christine Roth.
We had never met before the festival and immediately clicked and now we feel like we are sisters. Looking forward to working on the second book.

Haere rā Tahiti.
Great to spend time with Briar Grace Smith and meet the effervescent Celestine Hitiura Vaite. No photo but lovely to also share space with Nilima Rao. My publisher, Christian Robert is an impressive man both in stature and mana.
We had a (hot) blast

The official launch of Charlie Tangaroa et la créature des abysses today at 25th Salon du Livre in Papeete.
My publisher, Au Vent Des Îles, has so many NZ authors: eg Manawatu, Grace, Ihimaera and now me.
Today's view (and sound track)

Behind this stunning whānau photo of us in Tahiti Nui, it's hot/humid/beautiful/ but colonised & Vet Girl got upset seeing so many unwell dogs. The impact of colonisation on the indigenous community is clear - no glass in windows, rusted roofs, almost 3 world conditions. It should not be this way.

From our vaka around the bays of Moorea. We were absolutely cracking a pace after spending an hour getting drenched by a cold squall
October 17, 2025 at 5:00 AM
Highlight of my day: meeting/talking with students from Samuel Raapoto School. OMG it was so hot in the morning and then the heavens opened just after lunch. That's me melting in the middle
So lovely to do a panel with Briar Grace Smith. I learnt so much
And hubby just spotted me on tonight's news!
