Booze and cocktail history nerd. I host the My Tiny Bottles podcast & YouTube series (mytinybottles.com), and teach cocktail classes online and in-person as Tammy's Tastings (tammystastings.com). Also a SMOF, so may occasionally post about SF conrunning.
My feeling exactly.

Right? (Also available as a podcast , but then you can't see David catch a fish.)

I disagree with both of your assertions. But they're both way more work than you'd expect, and that's a good enough reason not to do them if you don't really want to.

Yeah, then Malort is absolutely not for you!

Before the brand was sold (2015 or so) it was absolutely vile. The current stuff is not far off other bitter liqueurs and can be used to make quite nice cocktails. I've done the blind side-by-side, and it really has gotten better, although if you don't like bitter stuff, you'll still hate it.

Have you tried it in places where you'd use an amaro? Maybe in place of Averna in a Black Manhattan? Or in place of Cynar in a Little Italy?

What's the proof?

Based solely on the description, I'd start by using it in place of creme de cacao and go from there. Adjustments might be needed for proof and/or sweetness.

Another good one here. You don't need to use the Creole Shrubb, it works with other orange liqueurs like Cointreau or Pierre Ferrand. But does require some other obscure ingredients. cocktailwonk.com/2014/07/czec...

Oh, I love Becherovka. It's glorious in here: imbibemagazine.com/recipe/linds...
Midnight Cowboy's Lindsey's Lament
There’s nothing to bemoan about the Lindsey's Lament cocktail--a potent mix of bourbon, Becherovka and maple syrup.

Wow, that was a ride to wake up to. Glad you figured it out.

It sounds very delicious

They must be worried about the color degrading since they've put it in dark glass, when otherwise you'd think that lovely color would be a selling point.

The French version is pleasant enough, but the US version was the fave, and I'm looking forward to drinking more of my bottle. It's definitely worth picking up if "zippy Dolin Blanc with strawberry & bergamot" sounds like something you'd like. I'm looking forward to trying it in a martini! 6/6

Flavor-wise, they made some of the same choices I though would work. It's much more fresh strawberry compared to the French sweet candy finish, with a little acidity adding some sharpness, and a little bitter note on the finish. It's got a lot of what tastes/smells like bergamot. 5/

So when I found it had finally been released, I searched out a bottle in the Boston area and ran a side by side with some friends. The French one is upper left, and pale pink. US version is a deeper pink with a hint of orange. 4/

When they updated the local Genepi to release Genepy des Alpes, it went higher proof and much more intense and herbal. I had some Chamberyzette when we were out at dinner that night, and wrote to Pierre-Olivier with my thoughts: "a bit sharper strawberry and a little bit of a bitter finish" 3/

I chose Chamberyzette, their strawberry aperitif that is very popular in France. I chose it because he said they were in the process of revising the recipe for an export version for the US market, and I was super curious what they would change. 2/
