Hello! I'm Caspar, an author participating in the 2025 #InkfortPublishingDerby. What does that mean?

That you're going to get a kick ass sci-fi book to read in September 2025 🖖

🌌 Taking the Plunge: unchanging war + time travel, mixed with an apocalypse

#SFFChat - Thanks for setting this up, these were fun questions to go through and think about.

Follow me to read & learn more about #TakingThePlunge, my #SciFiBook coming out in September thanks to #InkfortPublishingDerby!

War, Time Travel, an Apocalypse—Kurson can't deal with 1, yet he has all 3.
#SFFChat Outro: Thanks so much for answering (and bearing with me this morning! I'll be responding to answers for Question 4 tonight!). In the meantime, comment with something you'd like shared, and respond to someone else's answer either in this thread, or one of the formal questions!

#SFFChat Q4

"Let me die, let God take me!"

Everyone paused. The stillness wasn't because of what he'd cried out. We medics learned early that faith was found & lost on the battlefield, trampled into mud or used as a shield. No. The silence was because I, a stranger, was overhearing blasphemy.
#SFFChat Q4: Share a line or passage from your work that focuses on religion, faith, or the sacred, OR share a line that includes one of these (or a related) term!

Interpret as broadly as you like/need to!

#SFFChat Q3
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller Jr. comes to mind, as well how Terry Pratchett's book Small Gods show religion. Both of them have human approaching religion in different ways, but they also have their common threads as well.
#SFFChat Q3: What other author's work or world evokes the sacred for you?

Interpret how you like! (:

#SFFChat Q2
They can add motivation, an explanation for odd natural events in the area, or even explain why buildings are the shape they are (circles attract Gods; squares trap them). It would be interesting to see how much of the forgotten world is shaped by faith and gods.
#SFFChat Q2: What do/can characters with a religious worldview add to a story? How might their perspective(s) or inclusion change the worldbuilding or alter the reading experience?

(that second question is just an example of how you might approach the broader question--interpret it how you like!)

#SFFChat Q1
Faith is usually found (or abandoned) in wartime, which fits Kurson coming & going. He starts off not believing in any faith (especially not the "god-given" government), then believes in himself as a type of all-seeing god, and finally settles into a mix between Shintoism/Buddhism.
#SFFChat Q1: What role does religion, faith, or a lack of either play in your work?

If you can't answer it for your own story, choose a favourite work of SFF you feel best fits the prompt and discuss that!

#SFFChat Intro
I'm Caspar, and my morning cup of coffee is sacred. Sure, it helps to have a few other drinks nearby when writing since I'm a beverage goblin, but one of them has to be coffee. The others can be tea, soda, or lassi.
#SFFChat Intro: Tell us about yourself and share something writing-related that's sacred to you!

Maybe you always set aside the same hour every day to write! Maybe you feel your work is divinely inspired. Maybe you only drink out of one particular mug while writing and anything else is bad luck.

Here's your #JuneWorldbuilders prompt list! I'm feeling much better now compared to some of the previous months, so I'm gonna try to do these ones every day! Remember to check out other peoples' responses and maybe make some new worldbuilder friends!😀

Starting early, ready to get some words in! I think we'll start with Kurson picking out a careful trail through enemy territory - can't blow him up just yet after all!

Though I should also work on the blurb. Whoops.

Good morning! There’s nothing worse than losing a scene you worked really hard on, except losing a whole chapter or book

So BACK UP YOUR WORK!

In #TakingThePlunge, MC Kurson has a theme song.

"Ain't No Crying" by Derivakat

What am I fighting for?
Whose side am I on?
Lost everything in the crossfire...

Make you live through the pressure
Make you live through the pain
Sacrifice you for nothing...

Went through the first outline, sketched out some of the details that are going to pull together these twists - words are smooth for now (we'll see how long that lasts, ha!)

We've got an exhausted MC, Kurson, because 20 years of war will do that to a medic.
