Just the other day, I saw someone say they are glad young black men are "wearing quarter zips" and putting away "Jordans," which they say are associated with "ratchet behavior." One should be careful about equating black culture with "ratchet behavior," as they are not one and the same.

And fwiw, when I find people who are cool about respecting other people in general, they are usually fairly chill about this and that makes for wonderful experiences.

I remember having more of a bias against this sort of thing, but the last few years has done me a lot of good perspective-wise.

This is a fair and balanced take, I think. The other side of that is usually the frustration that comes with "While you don't necessarily want all the tie-ins and such, you do have to treat me as a person and not an object."

That's widely applicable tho.
