Systems engineer, servant-leader. My opinions only. We need "freedom from" as well as "freedom to".
I see you have met the Free State Project

I think we on the left (including me) need to get more detached, maybe more transactional, with politicians. No matter how good they may be or seem, they are just people, and they are working within a set of systems.

Unfortunately a lot of people are unaware!

Hmm, if only pulling a gun on a Black jogger had been treated with the appropriate seriousness

Kendra makes a good point here, responding to Karen Attiah bsky.app/profile/kend...
This is no shade to Karen, but a lot depends on how primaries are held in your state. If you're a progressive in a closed primary state like NY, congrats registering as an independent blocked you from voting from Mamdani in the primary. If you're in an open primary state, you do you.
And this is why I’m registered as an independent.

The best path will vary, esp since some states have banned all preferential voting. A huge challenge everywhere is voter trust & support. ANY pilot program in a local context is HUGE. Even if it's just how your local/county/state Dems elect their officers! There are groups already in many states!

I'm also saying this because you should treat your voter registration strategically, and not as a form of identity.

I'm mostly pointing this out because a lot of dems are likely going to be primaried from the left in 2026 and you want to ask yourself if you want to make you ineligible to vote in those primaries.

It's useful to think of your voter registration as strategic. In some states it might benefit you to register as a Republican even if you aren't one.

I'm not here to say how you should register. I am saying that strategic voting exists.
