Threads has so much drama. It’s wild

This was a Gender and Sexuality in YA Lit class and I let them choose the books themselves. We read three as a class: Kate in Waiting, Matched, and Bianca Torre is afraid of Everything

It felt a little “too easy” for a final, but also I really liked it?? Even if it was a little chaotic.

May try it again. TBD.

(One very shy group is going to do theirs privately for me, not in front of the class. That’s OK! They don’t need an audience for this. Just to talk.)

Part of the workshop was finding peer reviewed research and part was finding supporting examples from the books, but otherwise they just talked with no notes.

the more dramatic their initial observations were, the more lively the discussion got, so it was worth the time to help them come up with them

another fun observation was “these two characters are such shitty friends!”

We also did a lot of workshop and practice so they had examples ready

students worry they don’t have anything interesting to say, but when they talk to each other they do and it was really refreshing to hear non-polished non-AI slop

I had them start with a shared observation from the book—“this character really needs therapy, they are so annoying” was one of them

I think about this a lot!!! He had grandchildren! A daughter! I even obsess about the hats they wore to protect themselves from the star as it burned too hot!
