DAY 9: Sunset Peak, California Chardonnay; mustard Gouda; Rondello
ME: “Website says notes of brioche & vanilla. No?? But better than that Pinot Grigio.”
MOM: “I’ll finish it, it’s not really memorable, but definitely better than the Pinot. The cheese wasn’t very strong for all the mustard seeds.”

DAY 8: Paper Dreams French Rosé; Red Leicester; Caracol milk
MOM: “I’m pleasantly surprised by this Rosé. They usually don’t appeal to me. Cheese is nice & chocolate was good.”
ME: “This Rosé is just the right hint of sweetness for me, esp. with candy. Red L. is usually the cheese advent highlight.”

CATVENT DAY 4: Nylon candy stripe tube toy
ME “Taro looked underwhelmed at first, then rolled it around the floor for 30 minutes this morning. Light and fun to chase.”
MOM: “Phoebe says, ‘This toy is dumb! I don’t like it even a little!’”
December 8, 2025 at 10:00 PM
DAY 7: Vol Royal French red blend; caramelized onion cheddar; apple cinnamon
MOM: “Wine is decent; cheese is ugly but definitely tastes like onion jam (wouldn’t present very well on a board). I think the chocolate is my favorite so far.”
ME: “Cheese grew on me. Wine was pleasant, but forgettable.”

DAY 6: Trim Vine Pinot Grigio, Italy; Mimolette; Manon mousse dark chocolate
ME: “Lunch review! Website said fruity/floral; I say funky. Didn’t work at all w/ cheese; better w/ chocolate.”
MOM: “The cheese is awesome & chocolate is definitely delicious. Wine isn’t great, but I guess I’ll drink it!”

CATVENT DAY 3: Rattly mouse with feather tail
ME: “New toy for a good boy at the vet yesterday! Lot of feather chewing & picking up by the ears to shake.”
MOM: “This one made Phoebe sneeze three times. But she understands that there are goodies in that box now. So when we go to it she waits to see.”

DAY 5: Crush Cabernet Sauvignon, Chile; matured Gouda; salted caramel
ME: “Website promised ‘excellent structural integrity.’ I agree the wine is quite robust. Stands up to very assertive pairings.”
MOM: “Ok so I guess I am just a cab person…I liked this one. Cheese & chocolate paired well too.”

CATVENT DAY 2: champagne (sorry, “Champion Sparkling”) pillow with catnip
ME: “Back-to-back catnip pillows? Taro was less interested today, but did chew on the feathers.”
MOM: “Phoebe likes it! Grabbed it right out of my hand.”
December 4, 2025 at 11:24 PM
DAY 4: Cumulus Hideaway sauv blanc, S. Africa (“grassy, fresh”); goat cheese; leaf dark chocolate
ME: “The chèvre we didn’t get on Tuesday. Wine was pleasant, pairings better.”
MOM: “Not loving the wine, but I had a couple cosmos [at my work party] so…The cheese and chocolate were both good though.”
December 4, 2025 at 11:20 PM
DAY 3: Copper Grouse Cab Sauv, France (“hints of toasted wood & vanilla”); Edam; bloc gianduja (WRAPPED)
ME: “Mom's fave wine! Strong combo today; will be hard to beat. Best chocolate so far.”
MOM: “Definitely best wine so far, I would buy it if I could! Having chocolate after dinner…we shall see.”

CATVENT DAY 1: Present pillow with catnip
TARO (me): “initially he was way more interested in rolling around on the box, but eventually dragged the toy all around the house.”
PHOEBE (Mom): “So cute, Catvent is a camper & Phoebe is a happy camper with her new catnip pillow!”
December 2, 2025 at 10:32 PM
DAY 2: Swift Dive, NZ sauv blanc (“passion fruit & gooseberry notes”), bruschetta, rondello
MOM: “Citrus notes were strong at first. Kinda grew on me when I had it w/ cheese!”
ME: “weirdly the companion site rec'd pairing with….goat cheese? But I agree bruschetta worked. Wine's grapefruity & crisp.”

When “Trump Always Chickens Out” started taking off as a slogan, Penzeys ran a big sale on Chicken Taco seasoning. The rare email/catalog mailing list that’s worth being on (and bonus, the spices are great!)

Yeah, it’s enough of a pain to dry them that my own quilts are embarrassingly reminiscent of Mitch Hedberg’s old “dry clean only” shirts joke. Good luck!

Not a quilter, but have quilting family! Hand washing in the bathtub & air drying is usually recommended (I think my mom just does delicate cycle in the washer, but she has a big washer): www.thespruce.com/how-to-care-...

I will forever & always think of it as “cranberry sauce à la Bart” (and it’s the one I went for every Thanksgiving as a youngling; we also had homemade sauce)

Yes indeed! And that $308 will pay for 12 students' worth of groceries!

Greg, I’m bad at math, does that mean $100 ➡️ $154 ➡️ $308? Because it seems like *any* amount could help an incredible number of schoolkids with these matching Bull City Foodraiser donations tonight
