EXCEL SPREADSHEET, 1919 EDITION

This ledger comes from the Texas and Pacific Coal Company Records. The company was formed in 1888 by Colonel Robert Dickie Hunter, who also formed the company town of Thurber, TX.

For this month's Friday Faves, Assistant Archivist Weston Marshall highlights the Hal P. Spencer Papers. Spencer served in the U.S. Army at Hickman Field during WWII. After the war, he worked at Reese Air Force Base. txarchives.org/ttusw/findin...

Look at this 1968 "CATTLE-LOG" which includes a detailed overview of the archive from that time. The rest of the guide lists archived collections, all of which continue to be housed and preserved at the SWC.

On 8/28/25 the SWC joined the Motley County Historical Commission and the Matador Ranch in dedicating a replacement marker commemorating the history of the Matador Ranch. The original marker was destroyed by the 7/21/23 tornado.

This Lubbock Pictorial image shows Mr. Bob Penney (right) and Mr. Kincaide (barber, left) standing next to the traditional barber's pole. Penney was Precinct 4 Commissioner from 1911 to 1912.
