Bears repeating that this isn’t sustainable. Not for the Canadian/Mexican publics infused with anti-American sentiment or the MAGA faithful who will want Dear Leader to put up or shut up with his signature policy and the manna it rains down from heaven. This equilibrium has a short shelf life.

Caveats being:
1) we know in the IR literature that leaders horny for a deal are likely prone to take bad deals. That could be a problem for the U.S. for something important.
2) who’s to say target publics in places like Mexico don’t punish their leaders for the optics as this repeats.
