My take: Using Berger & Luckmann we can helpfully synthesize poli sci results on affect polarization + partisan media/internet/social-media.

Holslin's footnote on Voegelin strikes me as on target and generally supportive of her main burden. some other parts are not landing well for me.

ps, C Gerlach's great 2010 bk Extremely violent societies : mass violence in the twentieth-century world stresses the key pt right there in the title. the 20th c is the era of mass politicization everywhere and forever.
