Inside the Pisa Baptistery, late 12th century Corinthian-style capitals with masks in the abacus.
The last one with large carved out eyes and mouth looks like an ancient theatrical mask.
Small technical detail: you can spot some rows of unconnected drill holes on each.

'This year, one of the aims of the conservation charity will be to make people feel more at ease in its grand houses and, where practical, allow them to sit on historic chairs and use libraries and reading rooms rather than simply peer into them.' Excellent initiative.

The tiny church of St Mary at Ampney St Mary in Gloucestershire is a gem. However, one curiosity are the crossed rakes graffiti. Might they have been left by farm workers praying for a good harvest? Of perhaps they were giving thanks for a successful year. Whatever, they were a delightful find.

Wonderful ancient Egyptian lion, from the Middle Kingdom, painted on the walls of a tomb in the Valley of the Nobles. #egyptiananimals - and they clearly knew exactly what a lion looked like. I saw him this morning. Wonderful!

A wonderful view by @fotofacade.bsky.social of a wonderful place.
✨From the archives: St Mary’s, Breamore in Hampshire, is one of the most complete late Anglo-Saxon churches we have — a building that’s held its ground for over a millennium. Here I photographed it with the Elizabethan Breamore House behind it, two eras folded into one view.

If you're visiting Amsterdam and love architecture a visit to the Het Schip museum is a must.
Michel de Klerk designed 'Het Schip' with orange-red Groningen bricks and used more than twenty different types of brickwork patterns.

He believed that workers' houses deserved to be beautiful.

While modern social housing uses prefab garbage.
