Raskin: "It's not lost on anyone that shutting the government down allows them not swear in our new colleague, Ms Grijalva from Arizona, who would be the 218th signature to discharge the Epstein files and to put a vote on that on the House floor."

If things weren’t bad enough already, Republicans in control of Congress are shutting down the government.

Why? Because Donald Trump opposes making health care more affordable for millions of Americans.

Yes, that is precisely what is happening. Dems believe the way to win in politics is to outsource their own voices and rhetoric to pollsters, and pollsters relentlessly push the idea that health care is Dems’ strongest issue, and thus every event and crisis should be redirected towards health care.

They're about to shut down the government to protect the Epstein Files from disclosure. Whatever is in the files must be so unhinged as to be beyond imagination.

Every pundit who took at face value the idea that the Right sincerely cares about free speech, or ideological diversity, or in fact has any principles at all, should be wearing a dunce cap and writing a lengthy mea culpa right now. Not for our catharsis but for public awareness at least

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

I can understand the anguish from losing someone you looked up to politically.

What sits wrong with me now is that we see none of that from some of the same people whenever children are murdered in school. Maybe we all agree it should all end

The elites of our nation are finding it harder and harder to remember how the Constitution works, and increasingly inclined to understand all US policy as flowing from presidential fiat. Sliding into the authoritarian phantasmagoria.
This @washingtonpost.com editorial doesn’t make it past the second paragraph without a glaring (and telling) factual error.

President Washington didn’t create the War Department in 1789; *Congress* did:

Hurricane Erin is already Category 5, and is expected to double or even triple in size. This one isn't projected to reach land, but it's only a matter of time before the US faces a storm this size without a prepared FEMA to help anyone.

He wears makeup. He whines non-stop. He’s always a poor victim. He dodged the draft. He have never served anything noble. He’s desperate for approval. He smells like the inside of a warm prison on the bayou, he hikes his pants up high

The basic problem, which cannot be avoided, is that the cost of living crisis is fake. It is not real. It is a hallucination. And that means, no matter how hard you try, you cannot placate people by lowering the cost of living. It’s like trying to cure hypochondria with chemotherapy.
