This was the aforementioned 'one more deliverable'. bsky.app/profile/chri...
I started working on this the second I started the flight home on Wednesday, and it's the first time I've done traditional animation for a project. #SGDQ2025

That was actually a bit of luck: the font we use just about everywhere (Dosis) is *extremely* close to what’s used on Millionaire. Didn’t realize it until I started making the questions lol bsky.app/profile/devd...

Really appreciate the Millionaire colour/shape/font accuracy. Excellent work on this👌

Pratchett is logging Twitch chat and is playing animations that correspond the usage of certain emotes, so every instance of the applause animation is because someone used it in chat! bsky.app/profile/muff...
Hi! I love the GDQ layout so much, especially the neon blue & pink vibe from (2021?)

I do have one question, it’s regarding the animated 👏👏👏 that appears after a completed run-

How was that made for the stream? I’m a musician who takes live requests & have been asked to make a command for the 👏👏👏

The fonts on the omnibar are courtesy of @chevyray.dev, who even was kind enough to add some extra characters for us! Throw him a follow and support his awesome work.

Loves me a good Omnibar. Super readable font this year and looks great from further away.

oh right. I should probably link our website. That's a good thing to do on stuff like this. supportclass.net

That's all for now - share your questions if you have them, and we will see you *in the future*!
July 12, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Until that day arrives (and we inevitably have a megathread about it), an EXTRA HUGE shoutout to Lead developer @hatetosayit.com and @mesosupe.bsky.social, @seldszar.fr, and @hoishin.bsky.social for their unending technical excellence. None of this is possible without them.
July 12, 2025 at 10:21 PM
We have a LOT that we're looking into for future GDQ events, but nothing we can talk about in specifics yet. Redesigned components? Yep. Upgrading more elements to @rive.app? Absolutely.

A whole new framework and design system?

...someday. Hopefully soon. Not sure when. Stay tuned.

There's one more deliverable for #SGDQ2025, but you won't see it until the finale. I'll just say that it's something I've never done before on a professional project, and I'm extremely excited about it.
July 12, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Additionally, to everyone in the Blue Prince community, we are currently working on making both our changes to Bingus (and the tracker graphic we used on stream) available to everyone. Stay tuned for that - we might need to catch our breath a bit first.

I do want to give shoutouts to Bobbyburm, @radringtail.bsky.social, @flapjackretro.bsky.social, and Gelly for being extremely helpful and supportive through the development process. (And also giving me the foam finger from the interview segment) bsky.app/profile/chri...

On top of all that, we had to find a way to fit all of this on a layout without making the text impossible to read. This one took awhile to solve, but we got there in the end.
July 12, 2025 at 10:07 PM
On top of that, we added logic to draw lines connecting rooms when they were both collected by either (or both) players. Game state is now much easier to understand at a glance!
July 12, 2025 at 10:05 PM
Solution: I redesigned the bingo squares to match the style of Blue Prince's overhead view of rooms. If both players have collected a square, it turns white instead of the diagonal colors, since the old design can be confusing geographically for pathing.
July 12, 2025 at 10:02 PM
The second objective was the design: If you're not familiar with the game or the format of the bingo objective, understanding the 'game state' is difficult, Especially when a square is held by both players. We wanted a clearer way to show the 'path' being drawn by each runner.
July 12, 2025 at 9:55 PM
The runners accomplished this by stitching together two separate 5x5 bingo boards in Bingus and controlling both side by side. So our first objective: Make that step unnecessary and add support for a single 5x9 board.
July 12, 2025 at 9:53 PM
The Blue Prince was a quasi-Bingo run, where instead of having a standard 5x5 grid of squares, you're playing on a 5x9 grid matching the layout of the mansion in the game. The goal is to cross off squares in a pattern that connects from the bottom center 'START' to the top center 'GOAL' squares.
July 12, 2025 at 9:50 PM
I am a *huge* fan of Blue Prince. It might be my favorite game of the past decade. When it got added to the schedule, I was simultaneously excited as hell and anxious about how to fit graphical support into our dev plans for the event. Regardless, I wanted to deliver something special.
July 12, 2025 at 9:47 PM
And then, of course, there was Blue Prince. I have a lot to say, but first I'm going to link the VOD and encourage you to watch (spoilers ahead, and i absolutely encourage you to buy Blue Prince and play it first if puzzle roguelikes are your jam) www.youtube.com/watch?v=cirr...

...and then we had really fun ones like Sonic Adventure 2, which talked directly with data from Archipelago.

Getting everything on screen in a way that was both legible and comprehensive was a fun challenge.
July 12, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Gameplay layouts! We did a few new ones! Some were pretty simple, like "Widescreen 2, 4 Nameplates, Co-op"...
July 12, 2025 at 9:38 PM
The other game show content we contributed to was the Community Clash hosted by @bryonato.bsky.social and Viz, which we built custom software for.

(Did I mention we build a lot of game show systems, and even design them too? Let us help with yours!)

Community Clash has been a blast so far! And we're just over $1k to getting an extra bonus round played! #SGDQ2025

The Interview team put together a Millionaire-style quiz for the opening segment, and I got some overlays put together during setup. Some of the questions veer into the delirious.

All of this was done with Figma and was essentially an image slideshow, which worked just fine.
July 12, 2025 at 9:25 PM
As for the layouts themselves, we still had some fun work ahead of us. A number of custom layouts, a couple of game shows, and the requisite amount of polish that comes along with every GDQ broadcast. Starting with the pre-show...
