LA County Supervisor, proudly serving Southeast LA, the Gateway Cities, Long Beach, the Harbor Area, and parts of the South Bay.
LA County is considering the future of Measure J, which voters approved in 2020 to allocate funding for community services rather than incarceration.

To learn more and share your thoughts, you can attend a listening session in South Whittier on Dec. 9, or in Long Beach on Dec. 15.

I also want to thank our LASD Norwalk Station and their deputies for their partnership today.

Together we are giving people an opportunity to make their communities safer.

We collected 289 guns at today’s buyback, including:
- 129 pistols
- 85 rifles
- 41 shotguns
- 21 ghost guns
- 13 assault rifles

I am grateful to have these off the street and out of our neighborhoods, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to turn in a gun today.

Getting dangerous weapons off the streets— this is exactly why we hold these gun buybacks.
December 6, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Just spoke to a woman who brought in two assault rifles.

Her husband passed and she didn’t know what do with the guns— until she heard about this event.

Now there are two fewer assault rifles out on the streets that could be stolen and used in a crime.
December 6, 2025 at 6:32 PM
One hour into our gun buyback and we’ve already collected more than 50 guns.

Our LASD Norwalk deputies will be here until 1pm.

Our gun buyback at the South Whittier Community Resource Center is happening now.

Come exchange unwanted guns for gift cards—completely anonymously.

➡️ $50 for non-working firearms or parts
➡️ $100 for pistols, rifles, shotguns
➡️ $200 for ghost guns
➡️ $300 for assault rifles

A couple of months ago, I hosted a demo ride of this route, from San Pedro to Long Beach and back. And last month, Metro released a feasibility study showing we can run this water taxi for as little as $4 per seat.

We know a water taxi is possible—now let's go, full steam ahead.
December 4, 2025 at 10:01 PM
If we're serious about the 2028 Olympics being transit-first, Metro needs to be safe, accessible—and fun.

That's why I 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 the idea of a water taxi between Long Beach & San Pedro. Just now, the Metro board unanimously voted on the next step to turn that idea into reality.

Just in time for the holidays— be sure to check your mailbox. 📬

We are continuing our pilot program to wipe out medical debt for LA County residents, with another round of letters going out soon.

✔️ My motion with @lindseyphorvath.bsky.social to ban ICE and other law enforcement agencies from wearing masks and concealing their identities has been APPROVED.

We cannot have secret police terrorizing our communities. If this law means a fight in court—I think it's a fight worth having.
December 2, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Badges ON. Masks OFF.

Today the Board of Supervisors will vote on my motion with @lindseyphorvath.bsky.social to ban law enforcement—including ICE—from wearing masks and concealing their identity.

Volunteers are hard at work right now at our food giveaway at the Fedde Sports Complex in Hawaiian Gardens.

There are still plenty of meals available— and no line! If you or someone you know could use some free groceries this holiday season, please stop by. The event will be open until noon.

50 years ago, a group of South Bay women came together to fight for greater representation and empowerment—and formed the National Women’s Political Caucus South Bay.

Their work never stopped.

On your 50th anniversary—thank you to the NWPC South Bay for your ongoing advocacy.
