More thinking spring pix as we dive into even deeper freezing temps. Glossy Ibis are wading birds that frequent marshy estuary habitats to probe for food items with their long curved bills. Looking forward to spring when they return. #bird #ibis #wildlife #nature #photography

With the deep freeze I’m trying to think spring. Marsh Wrens make me laugh. Tiny birds with huge attitudes. Just managed a clear shot of this one a couple years ago straddling marsh reeds while checking out the intruder with a camera. #bird #wildlife #nature #photography #wren

Trying to think warm thoughts as we endure a deep freeze and foot of snow on the way. Sunflowers and a goldfinch for today to honor those warm thoughts, for peace in Ukraine, and my love of nature. #Ukraine #sunflower #goldfinch #bird #nature #wildlife #photography

While the males are shiny jet black, the female boat tailed grackle is this pretty brown earthy color. At least I think it’s nice. #bird #grackle #nature #wildlife #photography

There are times you need to really look carefully. What I originally thought was a red-winged blackbird was a rare rusty blackbird. I was happy to have members of this species find my yard a few years in a row. Not so this year though. #bird #wildlife #nature #photography

More eagles. These are of the parent birds of the youngsters posted yesterday. I’m still learning how to differentiate the male from the female. #bird #eagle #wildlife #nature #photography

Looking forward to seeing eagles again. These were from several years ago.l when a pair nested in the city. Testament to how cleaning up and creating habitat will bring wildlife. #bird #eagle #wildlife #photography #nature

The struggle is real. Long Island Tundra Bean Goose. I used to be good at picking out a bird in a flock. The frustration in not seeing this one had me near to tears. Why? Why can’t I do this as well as in my youth? Thanks to my birding friend Monica for her perseverance in getting me on this one.

One of my favorite photos of a female cardinal - they seem to pop in the bright overcast days after a snow storm.

From a few years ago another western visitor - western kingbird. It’s my understanding this individual did not survive after many people saw it. A sad reminder how a mistake in flight patterns can be costly.

I love Horned Larks. They are beautifully marked and bring a bit of brightness to a drab winter landscape. Feasting on seeds, they work areas in flocks. Sitting quietly in my parked car, some individuals will approach closely and allow their photos to be taken. #bird #nature #wildlife #photography

Our first real snow last weekend. Lots of birds visited.

Took a drive out to my fave birding location as we have been graced with the presence of a rare visitor. Back of camera cell pic of a Townsend’s Warbler feeding in cedar trees.

Sunset over the harbor a few years back. Loved the play of color on the clouds.

Shearwaters feed on the open ocean. These two seen from a whale watching boat represent a Great Shearwater (dark bill) and a Cory’s Shearwater (yellow bill).

My first encounter with a Razorbill from a whale watching boat a few years back.

Fox Sparrows are returning to the area. This handsome one showed up a few years ago. A friend has one that appeared yesterday in her yard.

A favorite image I used for anniversary cards. Swan in golden hour mist.

This one needs a caption! Ruddy Turnstone calling. These handsome shorebirds frequent a few of my favorite shoreline spots. The feed on mollusks and invertebrates. #bird #shoreline #birding #birdwatching #photography #nature

Memory from a few years ago of a Rusty Blackbird that visited along with a large flock of grackles and Red Wings. Fantastic birding serious decline due to habitat loss.

This morning fire in the sky that lasted only two minutes. Wish I could have gone to the shore for photos along the beach.
