I was 100 feet away originally. Bird at top of an evergreen tree. It made the choice. Did I move and take its attention from whatever it was hunting or just stay still lens in position just moving to push the silent shutter?
most magical wildlife encounter of my life. Red-tailed hawk chose to hover 12 ft from me just outside my 400mm prime’s min focusing. I didn’t move from this stance letting the bird dictate it all. I photo ethically but what does one do when the wildlife chooses to approach. #hawk #bird #wildlife
Many shorebirds are fueling up for long trips to warmer climes. This Great Egret caught a small fish. #egret #bird #birdwstching #nature #wildlife #photography
Yes please remove me. The open source misidentified my bird photo. I’d rather do my own identifying
Warblers have pushed through on migration. Winter is coming. Will await next spring and their return pass through. Chestnut sided warbler, yellow throated vireo, black throated blue warbler female. #bird #warbler #vireo #bordwatching #photography #nature #wildlife
Backlit Osprey with a sea robin fish. It’s pretty cool when you can identify what they are catching! #osprey #bird #hawk #birdwatching #photography #wildlife #nature
From a few years ago a juvenile Green Heron offered nice looks as it hunted in a pond in New Jersey. Loved the fuzzy hair look! #bird #nature #wildlife #photography #birdwatching
Autumn has arrived and many birds are heading out for warmer climes. The Great Blue Heron was photographed at sunrise several years back and is a fave image. Hoping for a visit there again for new pix. #heron #bird #wildlife #birdwatching #autumn #fallcolors
Taken last year from a boat at sunset. Great egret preening. #egret #bird #birdwatching #photography
Can you explain how this bird is a parasitic versus a pomarine? They are so hard to peel apart.
Pelagic birds are fun to observe. Jaegars are parasitic birds harassing terns and gulls into giving up their catches. These strong flyers are amazing while frustrating. Debate remains on which species Parasitic or Pomerine. #bird #wildlife #nature #photography #jaegar #pelagic
Another digital play - small sunflower profile and a b/w desaturation. Which do you like better? Frankly I like the black and white. #flower #floralphotography #nature #photography
A fond memory of what this Pink Spoonbill arrived up north. I had tried two previous times with no success to see this bird. On my third attempt I saw this beauty. I went back a couple more times graced with nice looks. #bird #spoonbill #birdwatching #nature #wildlife #photography
Coopers Hawk giving the stink eye having missed catching a bird for dinner. Long lens through the window. Bird had no idea I was spying on him. #hawk #bird #wildlife #nature #photography #birdwatching
Autumn starts next week and many of the peeps will leave for warmer climate. Safe journey to all and I will look forward to seeing you in spring. Juvenile spotted sandpiper and i believe semipalmated sandpiper - correct me if wrong. #spottedsandpiper ##bird #birdwatching #photography #wildlife
Sometimes you need to look down and watch your step. This fuzzy friend was crossing the sidewalk looking for a safe place. Seek called it an American Dagger moth caterpillar. #caterpillar #nature #wildlife #photography
And I love them all!
The adult hummingbirds have left for winter and the youngsters are still around partaking of blooming tubular flowers and the sugar water I offer. Soon they too will leave for their long journey south. #bird #hummingbirds #wildlife #birdwatching #nature #photography
Springtime I hear them early in the morning. Right now with fall approaching the crickets and katydids are doing most of the singing.
American Robins are collecting up in groups to migrate. I was told there are different populations. Some that summer in my area head south and a Canadian group that head into my area for winter. #bird #robin #birdwatching #photography #nature #wildlife
I missed them this year :( Orchard Orioles seem few and far between for me unlike their Northern oriole cousins. To me stunningly colored and a sweet tooth when not foraging for insects which are in sharp decline. #oriole #bird #birdwatching #wildlife #nature #photography
It ALL needs to stop!!
