New post: Reform and the UK press

We have reached the point where a majority of the print media are in effect encouraging civil unrest and racial hatred, yet thanks to political short termism this press remains essentially unaccountable for their behaviour
Reform and the UK press
It was entirely predictable that immigration/asylum would become the issue voters thought was the most important facing the country. Many p...

“Ultimately, either fiscal discipline or democracy itself is likely to collapse.” Incredible thing to write, but here we are.
Fiscal tweaks won’t solve Britain’s growth problem
The government must embark on a much more radical programme of structural reforms

The question about the 2020 election is the sickest, apparently requiring job candidates to deny reality in order to be appointed. Dangerous, horrible stuff.
Job candidates at federal agencies are being questioned on their loyalty to Trump.

Among the questions: Would you be willing to serve as a spokesperson for mass deportations? Which of Trump’s executive orders is your favorite? Who won the 2020 election?

The @dublonde.bsky.social gig in Scala London on Thursday was just pure fun, from the first minute to the last. 👏👏 So glad I went. I only stumbled across them via a recommendation on the other platform by @plasmatron.bsky.social (I think!) a few years ago. Next up for me is Mogwai in Brixton.

“The rest of us were second-class citizens by comparison.”
That’s the thing with rugby schools, and why I’m a deep sceptic of rugby’s “values” and “inclusivity”. As an ex-England Colt said to me, “rugby’s very inclusive, as long as you’re included”.

Maybe a massive increase in defence spending is what Europe needs to jolt its economy into life? A surge in aggregate demand and a catalyst for renewed investment in technology and high-end engineering. The cosy ESG days are over. Defence is a public good too.
