It’s been thirteen years since Jordan Davis and his friends stopped at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida. A white man complained that their music was too loud. After approaching the teenagers, he pulled out a gun and shot Jordan multiple times, killing him.

Oregon just banned bump stocks and machine gun conversion devices, often called “switches.” These small attachments can turn standard pistols into rapid-fire machine guns. The law also empowers local governments to prohibit guns in certain municipal buildings, so public spaces can be safe for all.

Three years ago today, a queer space filled with joy and love was disrupted by bullets. A man armed with an assault weapon and high-capacity magazines entered Club Q, an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs. Within a minute, he shot and killed five people and wounded 17 others.

Six years ago, a typical school day at Saugus High School became a nightmare when a student opened fire in the quad. The student used a ghost gun—an untraceable gun that can be bought online in a kit or 3-D printed, then built at home. He shot and killed two students and wounded three others.

In less than twenty minutes, he shot and killed twelve people and wounded another.

Eight years ago, a gunman armed with a Ruger AR-15 style rifle, a Glock pistol, and at least fifteen high-capacity magazines opened fire inside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX. In just eleven minutes, he shot and killed 25 people—including a pregnant woman—and wounded 20 others.

Seven years ago, in the deadliest attack on a synagogue in U.S. history, a man with an AR-15, high-capacity magazines, and three Glock pistols opened fire at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. He shot and killed 11 people, some of them Holocaust survivors, and shot and wounded six others.

Two years ago, a man with a Ruger AR-10 and high-capacity magazines opened fire on people in a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine. He shot and killed eight people and wounded three others in less than a minute. He then drove to a nearby bar, where he shot and killed ten people and wounded ten others.

On this day in 2022, a typical morning at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in St. Louis, MO became a nightmare. A former student, armed with an AR-15 and high-capacity magazines, opened fire. In minutes, a student and a teacher were shot and killed, and seven others were wounded.

Six years ago today, police responding to a non-emergency call about a front door left open shot and killed Atatiana Jefferson in Fort Worth, Texas. Atatiana was playing video games with her beloved 8-year-old nephew, Zion, who witnessed the shooting.

🚨 This is HUGE! 🚨California is the first state in the country to tackle DIY machine guns by preventing dealers from selling pistols that can be converted with “switches.” Gun manufacturers have known about this problem for decades, yet they refused to take action. So Californians did! 💪

Ten years ago, a student with an assault weapon shot into a classroom at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Nine people were shot and killed and nine more were wounded. It is the deadliest mass shooting in Oregon’s modern history.

Our generation has been through so many active shooter drills and swatting incidents that young people weren't even phased when evacuating the mass shooting in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

We don't have to live like this. Our lawmakers need to put our safety ahead of the gun lobby.

Seven years ago today, an off-duty police officer in Dallas, Texas murdered Botham Jean, a Black man, after wrongfully entering his apartment believing it was their own. Botham was a brilliant accountant, beloved brother, and devoted son. He was shot and killed just days before his 27th birthday.
