For autistic folks, it can look like being consumed by wholehearted, embodied enjoyable sensory experiences. It could be zen-like repetition of actions or routines.

It could be deep, wide-eyed engagement with treasured interests or activities, including reading, creating, archiving, or researching

Without that sense of being prepared and orderly - we go into a tailspin because what we thought was the road in front of us for the day - is now a complete shitshow and we have to figure out how to best deal with the situation.

Yeah! I think of my brain an old GPS device. If I end up even slightly off course of what I expected I have to recalculate and recalculate again at every change after that >_<

It's tiring, but I can deal with it in small doses, but repeated unexpected changes are a great way to ruin my entire week

Pinning it down is overrated, imo. Being able to accommodate yourself and manage your goals is where it's at

I have heard this from a ton of my clients too: treating the ADHD can make such a big difference in managing the anxiety and depression.

...it's almost like having ADHD is depressing and anxiety provoking or something... 🙃

Right!? I'm constantly asking myself whether I'm struggling with some emotion or other because I'm having impulsive ADHD emotions or because I have some complex trauma that I need to unpack

The answer is usually both :<

I loved Google Keep when it first came out, but I ended up feeling buried under stickies. (probably because I was using it for knowledge management as well as tasklist honestly...)

Do you have a method for managing yours so that you don't end up meeting the same fate?

So, for all of my appointments, I have reminders 5-10 minutes before I have to leave the house. That way I get that "oh. I have a thing. OHH I NEED TO MOVE." feeling ^^;;

When I had 30 minute reminders I'd convince myself that I'd remember... and I never did >_<

I have a lot of clients who have a similar system, and I find it so interesting because I'm almost the exact opposite.

When I have reminders, I'm super careful to only schedule them when I actually have to take an action. If I don't have act immediately, I just kinda forget about the reminder ^^;

Before I moved, my partner and I had a whiteboard system that worked really well, then we moved and it hasn't been the same since.

How do you keep your whiteboard usable?

Okay, but can we just acknowledge how key that last one is?

Yes, I do this too~ I've had some clients who have a designated stop or box for this. One by the top of the stairs, one at the bottom, one by the front door.

I thought that was a neat idea

I'm a big fan of the inbox as a to-do list as well. It helps so much to know that the only things that I can see when I log into my email are things that I actually need to do.

Also, I didn't think about having a list on each floor of the house. That's an interesting strategy

It's bright green, and has loop for my pen to attach to the side (and I store my little ruler sticking out the top so I can see it)

Then it's all about adding it to the keys, wallet, phone list so I have it with me. Oh... and having an air tag in it so I can find it when I leave it in the fridge ><

Yep~ I keep work and real life in the same book, but that's probably not a solution for everyone. I just happen to work from home, running my own business, so there isn't as much of separation between work and real life ^^;

Sometimes I have work specific pages or lists, but usually things get mushy
November 18, 2025 at 9:46 PM
That's pretty normal, yep ^^; I did that for years and years and years before I finally got down to one notebook that comes with me everywhere
November 18, 2025 at 7:44 PM
lol. That important information ends up in my notepad++ and I am just as baffled as you about what my past self was trying to communicate
November 18, 2025 at 7:42 PM
You have to tell me about this system at work! I've had so many of those, but they always revert back to my journal

The day I lose my journal is the day my life grinds to a halt if I'm being honest
November 18, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Ooh~ I will have to give it a read
