I’m imagining Calyx delivering his uncomfortably long pre-trial shonen villain monologue while Strix, who landed on “there’s a primal here” roughly two seconds after encountering electrope, applies all of her self-control to not having a Shantoto-style hysterical crack up.

Okay but one thing about 7.3: In mainline DT, Zoraal Ja struck me as off in a way that couldn't totally be explained by eldest son in a traditional family legacy pressure, more like 'dude is real heckin' tempered.'
WELL.
WELL.

Re: FFXIV's habit of completely dumping established character conflict in service of pacing, hey remember the Werlyt unlock, where *Raubahn* talked WoL out of aggressing on Gaius?

XIV as a story loves discarding friction the moment doing so serves the pacing (see Y'shtola suddenly being okay with the Exarch after three years despite having JUST FOUND OUT HIS PLAN IS TURNING YOU INTO A LIGHTWARDEN) so the fact that she stays in that real and messy grey area is astonishing

Finally getting around to starting 7.3 MSQ and damn, this is extra noticeable with the color scheme and lighting in S9, but I really am the only person darker than Wonderbread who's allowed to exist, huh?

Trying a couple of minor scaling tweaks to see if I can look a little less like a beanie baby, and balancing that against clipping through all my gear or looking too weird in cutscenes.

Better (as in, any at all) accessibility features for photosensitive players

You have been granted one (1) minor boon from Yoshi-P: you can add, subtract, or change something about FFXIV in a *minor* way, no restructuring entire systems or expac stories, nothing that changes the course of the narrative. What do you choose?

Preparing for (dry) cold is a normal part of Strix’s Sagolii-native cultural repertoire. It’s not comfortable, but very doable in the short term with appropriate clothing, warm food and drink, advance monitoring the weather forecast and shelter options etc.
*Wet cold,* otoh, is abjectly miserable.

There's a whole generation that learned irony before sincerity and now they're trapped. Can't be earnest without a layer of self-deprecation. Can't be enthusiastic without signaling awareness of how cringe enthusiasm is.

I started playing in the summer of 2020, a handful of days before 5.3 dropped. I finished MSQ-to-date just in time for 5.4 in December.

Hold on, did we play the same WAR job quests? Y'know, the one about playing wingman to get our dude laid because he had no sauce?

There are so many good choices. For WoLNPC stuff, a Lala nerd party with Alka Zolka (WAR), Setoto (SCH), Lalai (BLM) and Strix (BLM, RDM, or RPR) sounds like a lot of fun.

one of the beautiful things of the ff14 fandom is that all of us found this tiny part of the game that we LOVE and became obsessed over it and built our own stories around it
it could be a npc, a quest, a region, a specific part of the lore... but even the most minor sidequest character has a fan

LRP One recurring narrative feature of FFXIV I could really super do without is "Titular class/job/role trainer is a man who is absent, disinterested, or flagrantly incompetent; his assistant, who is a woman, does all of the actual work and receives none of the credit."

When you abandon your duties as guildmaster to mess around in a forest, make the newest recruit dance for you, give them a book, tell them that you're certain you'll meet again, then disappear without a trace off the face of the planet for more than a decade.
