5-6 years is a great replacement interval, imo. I wouldn't look that much into it. Ignore specs and shit. Decide if you want Android or iOS and then just buy last year's flagship model. It'll actually be affordable and you'll be set for the next half decade.

I would guess, if you asked people which they prefer, a cheaper throw away one time use product or a more expensive lifetime product they can repair, most people would choose the more expensive product.
