I think the Burns documentary on the American Revolution is good. In particular I had no idea the smallpox breakout that coincided with the war. Washington mandated his troops got inoculated.

that whole 'this country isn't ready for a woman president' line is really upsetting because it shows exactly how neoliberalism works, redirecting blame from issues of policy (or lack thereof) onto a flattened, vague type of sexism in a way that ultimately doesn't even challenge sexism!

The last actual Oliver Stone film is Any Given Sunday. Following Alexander's failure, his narrative films have been bland and safe. He used to push boundaries. Not just with the content, but also the way he shot and edited his films.
