4/5

Would’ve probably been 5/5 if it had been longer. Essential reading for the world we live in

Not sure how this has got the reputation it has. A lot of ways of saying the same thing over and over again

You know what you’re getting with Patrick Radden Keefe and this is no exception. A great collection of magazine longreads

Airplane (1980)

4/5. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in ages. Proper belly laughs. Don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

Bloody hell. One of THE greats of Manchester & UK music. He drove the sound of that band which grew to influence so many and are still one of my favourites now. Some of the best nights of my life watching him and the other three. He just seemed like he fucking loved it. RIP mate ❤️🍋

Life is Beautiful (La vita è bella) (1997)

4.5/5. It’s an extremely brave choice to do a half-comedy film set during the holocaust but fuck me this was incredible. No spoilers but the opening scene was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while and the ending nearly had me in tears.

In the leadup to this remembrance day, I've been researching the personal stories of my family, and today I'm in particular thinking of my great-granduncle, Eric Faulkner (pictured). This weekend, I learned more about the story of Eric, who aged just 19 in June 1918 after wounds received in action.

Class today. Doku’s best in a city shirt. Dias, Nunes, Nico Gonzalez in particular outstanding

I’ve smoked weed and taken mushrooms in Amsterdam, ecstasy and ketamine in London, cocaine and cigs in Australia but no drug compares to telling the missus she’s a fool for hanging the washing outside, her doing it anyway then it raining 5 minutes later

The Outrun (2024)

3.5/5. What a portrayal of alcoholism man. Saoirse Ronan is such a talent, give her her flowers. Could’ve been more but thought the dual timeline was poorly executed and there were lulls. Beautifully shot and a perfect setting though.

1917 (2019)

4/5. Some amazing bits but the rat part really annoyed me for being sheer bollocks when the rest of it was so believable. Some amazing shots & George McKay outstanding as lead
