If I recall correctly, @alexlindsay.bsky.social has been saying for years that the camera manufacturers should leave the UI to a phone. The issue there is all engineers have an influence. Skin tones look different on Canon vs Nikon, and I don’t want to pick a phone based on that.

Not to mention carrying separate parts isn’t conducive to the avg user at all.

My guess, it’s just a patent for patent sake. Could it be interesting, of course, but no one wants the base unit with zero cameras, and this would be much bigger with the camera module.
