Just saw an “interview” with Theda Bara that consisted of a vintage photo, colorized, animated, then synced via text-to-talk to a recreation of her voice reading her own quotes from an old article and I hope the people behind this understand when I say please go directly to Hell.

Whoever at the NYT Book Review let infamous wanker Jeffrey Toobin write "Zoom meetings, as a rule, are less riveting than cross-examinations" is no friend of his, although I think we'd get along just fine.

In my own fond daydream, Trump is played by Edward Arnold. And a gangly young reporter in the back, played by Jimmy Stewart, suddenly interrupts him with an angry "Now, now, wait a darn minute, sir, I'm sorry but you can't talk to her like that!" (Old movies are so much better than real life.)
The fact that no one in the room stood up for her says a lot about how we got here bsky.app/profile/pale...

"Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places, they open doors and minds. Movies are the memories of our lifetime. We need to keep them alive."

Wow, just saw on Facebook that Prokofiev has cancelled his NYC dates because he “doesn’t want to play for commies.”

“Consumer Pain Motivates Trump to Act on Prices.” J-School 101, NYT, but you have NO IDEA what motivates anyone. You might just as well have written “Fear of Midterm Losses Forces Trump to Retreat on Tariffs” — biased, too, but far more plausible, as it reflects his self-interest over any compassion

Pope Leo, quietly qualifying to be one day named The Patron Saint of Film Critics.
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

Hard to take NASA seriously when their latest mission sounds like the last floor show at Ace Rothstein's Tangiers.
NASA's latest robotic mission to Mars, ESCAPADE, which launched to space on a Blue Origin rocket on Thursday, breaks the mold of how planetary science missions typically come together. Here's how.

I'm guessing after one big lizard crawls into your poontang having a few small ones in your kitchen is nothing.
The credulity.

And that's a wrap for the Fall season of Film Club at the Pelham Picture House, six weeks of screenings and Q and As that included a wide array of docs, indies and imports. Thanks to everyone who made it possible -- see you in a few months for more screenings and surprises.

Thanks to Bleecker Street, Cinetic Media, and everyone who helped bring Max Walker-Silverman's "Rebuilding" -- and Oscar-winning producer Dan Janvey -- to The Picture House last night for a screening and terrific Q-and-A. A small, lovely film about staying put while moving on, opening Friday.

Most doctors never have to file a claim with their malpractice insurer. What a bunch of frauds.
Most people never have a house fire. So why are we wasting money on a fire department?

The guy is so determined to grab hold of power it's like he thinks it's some female staff member's ass.
I guess when you've only ever been a politician you just keep trying to get elected to office, it's not like you can get a job as a sex pest or elder killer.

Thanks to everyone who helped bring ON THE END, and filmmaker Ari Selinger, to the Picture House last night for a great screening and q-and-a about this beautifully acted little indie that's part romance, part underdog drama. Time for some smart distributor or streamer to snap it up!

You know who really lives “a life of public service”? Soup kitchen staffers. Special ed teachers. Legal aid lawyers. You know what public service isn’t? Becoming a career politician and riding around in limos while your net worth balloons and young Americans are sent to die in fraudulent wars.

Thanks to all who helped bring "If You See Something" -- and filmmakers Oday Rasheed and Jess Jacobs -- to The Picture House last night. A story of trust, doubt, love and refuge, it opens Friday at the Quad Cinema and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in New York, in other major cities soon.

When it comes to the state of our politically fractious nation. today's filmmakers don't pretend to have all the answers. But as three new films show, they're unafraid of asking all the right questions.

Even as we're deluged with made-to-order "facts" and deep-fake images, people like Lynsey Addario literally risk their lives to capture the truth. Thanks to NatGeo for bringing "Love + War" to the The Picture House last night for Film Club. In theaters Oct 29; on multiple platforms Nov 6.

The job is "president" because the person we hire to do it is supposed to preside -- not rule. (We went to war to get rid of rulers.) I didn't like it when Clinton, Obama or Biden regally issued decrees or granted pardons. You think I like it any better when this fool does it? #NoKingsDay

The “expert” cited in this CBS piece is a Republican former NYC public advocate candidate who complained “The far left have a monopoly on the conversation in New York City.”

Surprise, he thinks Cuomo won on substance and Mamdani is all flash.
