For the 33rd consecutive year, the United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a motion calling for an end to the 64 year old US blockade of Cuba. The vote was carried by 165 in favour with 7 opposing.

On 23 September 2024, Israel launched an intensive aerial bombardment on Lebanon, heavily targeting Dahiyeh in southern Beirut where entire apartment blocks were destroyed. Despite a ceasefire on 27 November, Israeli strikes on Lebanon are happening on a near daily basis.

This weekend is the 43rd anniversary of the Sabra / Shatila Massacre when 2,000-3,500 Palestinian refugees and Lebanese civilians were murdered by the Phalange, a right-wing militia operating in co-ordination with the Israeli army. This cemetery in Shatila remembers the dead.

The Hague Group of 8 states from the global South has agreed 6 “diplomatic, legal and economic measures to restrain Israel’s assault on Palestine”. The only meaningful form of state action in response to the genocide has come from the global South.
