Anti-solar NIMBYs aren't beating the accusations of being pretty dim bulbs. "Extracting from the sky" is a good one

Waymo is a topic that appears to drive people towards being intensely and aggressively blind to relative risk assessment and voluminous real-world data

Has anyone else ever read this book? If so, do you agree that it's the most insane book you've ever read?

Things not looking great for the beer/brewpub industry! Younger cohorts aren't into it and my cohort is drinking way less, I guess.

It's kind of funny how many "Waymo is dangerous" takes seem to come from people who have statistically backwards car-brained assumptions about what constitutes "good" driving. The most statistically safe drivers are the "worst" and most "annoying" drivers to you, huh? Hmm, intersting!

I am not a Christian but this seems like one of the obvious combinations of idolatry, sacrilege, and heresy I can imagine?

There are flashes that new builders *are* getting good at building some very beautiful brick buildings in Portland, too. I really like this one, it's so simple and classic and looks somehow much better than the average 5-over-1. (Wish it were taller though!)

Also, Oregon has some of the greatest geothermal potential in the entire country and with enhanced geothermal we may be able to take advantage of it a whole lot more easily

Eastern Oregon is not very far to run a very beefy HVDC line and has actually quite good solar potential! (And Nevada and Arizona aren't all that much further)

People are several times as weird and fixated about some notion of "Democrats" being fixated on The West Wing than any actual Democrats are fixated on The West Wing. Any remaining political salience is now almost entirely as a Chapo Traphouse extended universe talking point

I don't think it's there yet but cryptocurrency is creeping towards being a systemic risk

Turns out some people import Euro or British kettles and use adapters. Levitron also makes a British outlet that fits in American NEMA junction boxes (??) you can use.

Anyways, it's a real shame this isn't a standard kitchen outlet here because our non-hardwired appliances all underperform

I'm planning on remodeling my kitchen and would absolutely install a NEMA 6-20 outlet for a better kettle but no one makes American 240V kettles. It's crazy because you could reuse existing wiring with these, and get way more powerful appliances!

Half Life 1 was probably 20 hours tops, was $50-60 1998 dollars, was made by a couple dozen people, and was a critical and popular smash hit
