What has actually happened to the Canucks’ penalty kill in 2025-26?
What has actually happened to the Canucks’ penalty kill in 2025-26?
They don’t call it the penalty kill because it kills your chances of making the playoffs. But for the 2025-26 Vancouver Canucks, that might as well be the case. The PK unit was one of the lone bright spots last season as the 2024-25 fell apart and failed to make the postseason. After a bit…

What might an in-season 2025-26 Canucks rebuild actually look like?
Let’s skip the preamble this time. You know why we’re talking ‘rebuild.’ Because everybody seems to be talking rebuild right now. The Vancouver Canucks have started off the 2025-26 season in a tie for the third-worst record in the league after 14 games, and once again, the topic of tearing down the roster to start…

Canucks: The Edmonton Oilers don’t have what it takes to trade for Kiefer Sherwood
The Vancouver Canucks relatively slow start to the 2025-26 season, combined with Kiefer Sherwood’s hot start (no ‘relatively’ required there), has led to inevitable questions about the pending UFA’s future with the team. And those have, naturally, led to thoughts about his potential future with another team. The decision-making process here has always been tricky, with…

I was bullish on Elias Pettersson heading into the season, but even I didn't think he was going to become the new Niklas Kronwall.

Canucks: Is newly-acquired Lukas Reichel a centre or not?
The Vancouver Canucks have been searching for another centre for their NHL roster for quite some time, but on Friday, they finally landed one…or did they? There’s no doubt that they’ve landed someone. GM Patrik Allvin announced that the Canucks had acquired Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the Blackhawks’ own 2027…

For a team that needs a centre as badly as the Canucks to acquire one for as cheap as a fourth round pick is a no-lose situation. To get one as young and with as much potential left in him as Lukas Reichel has the potential to be a massive win, too.
Not one thing to complain about with this trade.

Tom Wilson was attempting reckless hits all morning before he finally landed a late one on Filip Chytil. Brutal, useless play.

Arshdeep Bains has been one of the Canucks’ most consistent contributors through first five games
Despite winning the Calder Cup with the Abbotsford Canucks last season – and putting up 24 points in 24 AHL postseason games along the way to victory – Arshdeep Bains still had a battle on his hands to make the Vancouver Canucks’ roster this season. Through training camp and the exhibition schedule, Bains performed…

The upcoming and underrated Canucks bounce back season belongs to Quinn Hughes
A lot of ink has been spilled about ‘bounce backs’ and the need for them if the Vancouver Canucks are going to succeed in the 2025-26 season. Whether we’re talking about bouncing back from injury or poor performance – or both – it’s by now been well-established that the Canucks’ fortunes this year rely on…

What a stupid and unnecessary hit from Weegar, and what awful luck to start the season for Elias Pettersson.

I don’t think the roster is settled yet. Possible there’s an IR placement later in the week and Mancini comes back up.

If I had to pick one waiver-exempt player to make the Canucks this year, it was Jonathan Lekkerimaki. Glad to see it happening.

I've updated the article to account for Mancini and Willander getting sent to Abbotsford.
In short, Canucks will be around $1.33m in cap space but if a player is put on IR, and another recalled, Canucks will have around $0.47m.

Analyzing the Canucks’ cap situation heading into NHL roster finalization
With the final roster due on Monday, October 6th, it’s time to look at the Vancouver Canucks‘ salary cap situation heading into the season. There are several camp battles and trade rumours that could change the Canucks’ salary heading into their season opener on Thursday, October 9th, against the Calgary Flames. The maximum roster size…

Looks like the final two #Canucks cuts are Victor Mancini and Tom Willander.
Curious to see if this remains the case until opening night, or if Mancini is back up after some further shuffling.

No #Canucks on waivers today means that Arshdeep Bains, Linus Karlsson, Aatu Raty, and P-O Joseph will all be on the opening day roster. The last two cuts must be made from the waiver-exempt crowd...meaning two of Braeden Cootes, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Tom Willander, Victor Mancini, and EP25.

Elias Junior Pettersson is back on the bench. A late arrival to start the period, but he's there.

What a shot. Quite wild that on a Canucks team with Pettersson, Boeser, and Kane, it might be Jonathan Lekkerimaki might have the best shot of them all.

I could honestly see the Canucks going with this as the opening night forward lineup. Put P-O Joseph on waivers, roll with Raty and Karlsson as extras for now.
