I think when a competent BBC journalist like Charles Wheeler or John Simpson invoked/s impartiality they did/do mean giving an honest account of the evidence and facts. But maybe the concept has been diluted and also confused with the inadequate term "balance".

Those whose job appears to be briefing against Starmer’s perceived enemies have a superb record of stupidity going back to when he was leader of the opposition. Remember when they briefed against Rayner & she ended up getting promoted? I don’t think tiredness is the issue: incompetence is.
