And it would have been harder for McConnell to say "you can't impeach a non-sitting President" and Roberts to say "you can't charge a non-sitting President without first impeaching him" if they had to do it at the same time.

Right, but you only need a majority to hold an actual trial, with witnesses and evidence, even if the vote at the end is the same (and I am not sure it would have been). I think laying out the case in damning detail before taking the vote would have had value.

I thought it was a mistake not to hold an impeachment trial when we could. Even if you lose, make John Roberts preside on C-SPAN, present all the evidence, force votes on procedural issues to make Republicans take a position, and so on. Maybe it's just spectacle, but it would be important spectacle.

Judaism is not a religion. It’s something western languages don’t have a single word for. We are, to paraphrase Dara Horn, a joinable tribal group with closed ritual practices. To reduce us to religion is colonial thinking and minimizes the richness of our culture and peoplehood.

Please, nobody who straightforwardly calls his opponents "dethpicable" would be allowed anywhere near the Democratic Party leadership.
