Great, thank you very much for that context!

I'm confused. That's a 10-minute mile. I run >20 miles/week and bike more, but a 10 minute mile is hard for me to sustain after mile 3. Is it 6 mph for a 100 meter sprint or for an hour? There are people who run a Half without stopping that are slower than 6mph and I would consider in good shape.

I hear you, we just disagree. I think bullying and fuzzy math are the policy levers to accomplishing their policy goals. I just think their policy goals are myopic and their logic based on a faulty view of the world. But I do understand them, even if I couldn't possibly disagree more with them.

Yeah, dig into it. The US already applies either antidumping duties or countervailing duties on relevant goods (including some from Vietnam). So we were already trying to create an even playing field for US producers in the domestic market. Which is one reason why this 👏 whole👏thing👏is👏CRAZY

I don't think Musk's companies get subsidies to export goods at an artificially low price. I thought his companies (along with others) received subsidies to provide goods to US consumers at reduced prices until the market becomes competitive. But could be ignorant on this one!

I'm no fan of this situation, the policies make no sense, it's tyrannical, etc. But, I do want to push back on that perspective because subsidizing industry to artificially deflate prices to improve terms of trade is not good economic policy, no matter the country and no matter the trading partner.

Actually, sorry, let me roll that back. I agree that tariffs have nothing to do with dumping. But, if Lutnick agrees with the perspective that tariffs are a negotiation tool, then [assuming rational humans] they're not asking for 0 TARIFFS, they're asking for 0 SUBSIDIES to remove the new tariffs.

I agree. I'm just trying to find some logic to anchor myself in this hellscape.
