I just assumed that designation was for when the batter gets out, that otherwise it’s a two out fielders choice. Maybe it’s a distinction without a difference.

I was listening to a podcast talk about NFL officiating and taking this angle, something like: “If you bet on a game and lose on a call like that, you’re going to want to know why you lost, and the NFL has to have better answers.” I could meditate on it for a year and never understand that mindset.

No one ever understood what the hell was happening in The Sound and the Fury just by reading it. Faulkner must have told someone what was actually going on in it, and the word has been passed down ever since.
