i think ottoman steampunk can be a great mix. it’s largely unexplored apart from “ottoman in the 21st (25th?) century” stories by memo temblelçizer. there was also this comic and a game, but i didn’t see them. store.steampowered.com/app/2343640/...

nothing in the phone app shows anything unread, but this red dot won’t go away. i had to calm down and play a mini detective game for 5 minutes to find out where that came from. what an utterly horrible design. #uxfail #ux

visual studio 2026 has been released as just "visual studio". that's a significant change as it's always been branded with a year for every release since 2002. the year is still there on most UI elements, but it feels like microsoft is phasing it out.

the US government's sign-on systems relying on a service on a ".me" domain which is controlled by the country of montenegro will never cease to amaze me.

i don't think security is much of a concern, it's probably fine, but it looks unprofessional like hosting the white house homepage on geocities.

that’s great but we need a sandboxing option for non-store apps too. also, microsoft should take note. they have sandboxing for ms store too, but have decided to make it optional. it needs to be enabled for all, and bypassed only with many warning prompts.

i tried copilot to convert one XSLT to vue to see how it would fare. it partially succeeded, but the docs it added were disgusting. WTF is this? did they add something like "exaggerate the value of your work 1000x" to claude4.5's system prompt? the sad thing is, i worked with people like this.

geico’s verification codes seem to be six hex digits. so the probability of guessing the right code is 1 in 16 million versus 1 in a million of six digit numbers. but, the likelihood of misreading it is immensely higher: easy to confuse B with 8, 0 with O or D, 1 with I or lowercase L, etc.

oh i see, my zero storage cost is your priority. that’s the one thing that will lift off bitbucket as a viable github competitor: letting others take over the workspace names of your older users.

windows performance analyzer is a fantastic tool. i usually don't expect such high polish on a developer-oriented tool, but the team has certainly knocked it out of the park. cc @us.graphics :)

i think i understand #rustlang 's justification for "x().await" syntax: so you don't need parantheses for some expressions unlike "await x()". but it's confusing for beginners: "it might look like it but it's not a member access, it's not a property either..". i wish they'd used another character.
