Hi! First post :)

As an intro, my primary side-project is Tides of Revival, an first-person RPG set in a massive world that will play over decades and change with and without your actions.

I also run the Open World Gamedev newsletter and Discord, hosted over here: discord.gg/rzByav6Y7Z

Due to overwhelming popular demand I taught myself how to make and edit video!

Here is how I made my procedural pixel art tentacle, keen to hear feedback as this is all very new for me. Cheers :)

I went on a Netflix/Grisham spree and watched The Firm, Runaway Jury, and The Client and wow, The Firm has not aged well. It felt extremely stiff. The plot was probably good but it was overshadowed by allround terrible direction, music, and acting. With such a cast, it's a crazy waste!

After the second year of trick or treating in the neighborhood I'm really liking Halloween becoming a thing in Sweden, for these reasons. Huge difference living in a house compared to an apartment for sure!

Is there anyone out there that actually is trying to build a gamer and consumer friendly Linux version for PC? I bet there is or will soon be a huge market willing to pay for a better OS than Windows the way it's heading.

I've tried telling Giuseppe that these white lines aren't a good fit for Tides's art style but he insists on putting them in. What are they even supposed to be, some kind of snow that only falls in straight lines? It's like he thinks this is how clouds work and that wind isn't a thing.
I've implemented a GPU-driven debug line renderer for Tides based on this great article by @belgianrenderer.gijskaerts.com www.gijskaerts.com/wordpress/?p.... Now I can debug why my GPU-driven LOD selection doesn't work 😅

@gmodarelli.com added support for the moon to have a proper texture! I tried throwing one together. It's not great (not even very good), but it's ours!

We've just finished another iteration on Tides! This one took three months to do. @gmodarelli.com's renderer is more GPU driven and I have gotten a long way on the release's gameplay goals!

We have a more stuff we wanna do and then release something playable in December!

I told my kid if he were to help with Tides development it would go a lot faster and so I wanted to see if there were any good tutorials... I don't know what I expected.

Giuseppe has done an amazing job with this update! So happy it's in! It's one of the big parts of the release we're hoping to do this year.
After a couple of months of on-and-off work on Tides of Revival I have completed the implementation of Meshlet-based GPU-driven rendering and cascaded shadow maps. I had to touch every aspect of the renderer to make this possible and I'm happy it's now over :) Onto new rendering features now!

While implementing fast travel and having it take the right amount of time (per distance), I noticed that the duration doesn't match when you walk manually... So I've now eliminated some cases and am using my chunky metal D20 to manually walk a long distance to see if the error holds.

I've always thought the "implants pushes away your soul" mechanic of Shadowrun was boring, like, it's a very gamey way of balancing that play style. Mostly because I don't believe in the soul. But this apparently first solution was much more interesting and believable, and nowadays, relevant..

Game like @kenney.nl's Make Room but you're a renegade/drunk cop/FBI agent from a 90's thriller and you gotta tear it up and find the evidence, there or not.

With lines like "WHERE THE FUCK IS IT!?", "THIS GUN IS MY WARRANT!" and "SHE'S DEAD IN TWO HOURS!"

I finished Steamworld Dig yesterday. A good game but the last third isn't great. They kinda didn't know what to do to increase the difficulty, and so added enemies and especially level concepts that were more annoying than interesting.

It's clear it was a learning experience for the sequel 👌 .

According to bsky I got 20 followers overnight. Given that the last time I posted was 5 days ago I doubt it was that, unless it got posted to a game devs & butt jokes discord or something.

Anyone want to enlighten me? The least you can do is send an invite to that discord!

A thought I had: Typically vampires who have lived for a long time are powerful and rich, right? They make connections and invest or whatever. But like, all they have is time, and us humans *do* have time, say some 40 years of working. But a lot of us aren't getting rich or richer. Why?

Scrollbars are terrible in modern UIs but monochrome stylized simplistic icons have to be the worst change that has happened to UIs.

Yes, UX designer, I *would* like to be able to figure out what an icon does without using a tooltip.

Damn. Not trying to quote this out of context or anything, and I'm not sure it's as bad as it sounds, but I've at least stumbled onto this specific issue myself.

I wonder if it also translates to worse error messages and code completion etc. too. #ziglang

Watch this interview with Giuseppe @gmodarelli.com who's working with me on Tides of Revival to see how it's going with the game and why we're using The-Forge @theforge.dev !
