And the Swiss would be the last country to say the EU was flexible. It negotiated hard over rejoining Erasmus and the EU was prepared to let the current multi faceted deal expire. The Swiss may have walked away at first but the Swiss have come back because they need the EU more than EU needs them.

I'm not at all surprised that Trump's team, with their collective experience of national security affairs, fell for the "just one surgical strike" fallacy.
Trump made his choice, embroiling the US in another Middle East war, precisely what he promised his base he would not do. He may think this is a one-off strike. But the Iranians will decide that. Will be discussing the implications incl for the UK on BBC Radio 4 The World This Weekend around 1320.
