More progress on the busy book. I think maybe I'll do a blog post for each page separately as I finish them.

My lunch this week, based on this recipe: www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/pean...

I used shredded chicken and a bag of broccoli coleslaw from the bagged salad section at the grocery store (these are my secret weapon for easy meals).

I broke my nail while smashing the ice off our outdoor garbage can. Usually, I'd repair it with a teabag, but I didn't have the patience for that today. Instead, I grabbed a leftover adhesive nail wrap. You can see it's the wrong size for this nail, but it seems to be doing the job so far.

Facebook plans to put facial recognition in its glasses and they think we’re too stupid to fight back.

Their internal memo: “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.”

And ready for everyone to read is this hopefully helpful reminder that you are under no obligation to finish any game you start. Have fun and move on. Don't have fun and move on. Just move on. It's OK.

Let It Go: Finishing games is optional
Most games, but especially modern games, are made to be finished. I am expected to play from beginning to middle to end, and if I find myself struggling at some point along the way it’s gener…

Every time another basic income pilot like this concludes - the results are "unprecedented." It's almost like it's time for it to become universal or something.
The results of another BIG pilot are now available. This one was in L.A. and provided $1,000/mo for a year (2022 to 2023) to 3,200 people and compared them to a control group of 5,000. Every household started in poverty and with kids or expecting a baby.

The results speak for themselves. 👇
Los Angeles gave families $1,000 a month in the biggest basic income pilot in the country. Now the results are in.
A basic income pilot in Los Angeles saw increases in the quality of life for participants and their families. Some even left abusive situations.

I made a tiny curtain for the shelf I've been keeping my bonsai sprouts on so the lights aren't in our eyes when we're sitting on the couch. It's not the prettiest thing I've ever made, but it does the job.

It's been 10 days since I started the process of planting bonsai seeds, and I have a few sprouts. So far I have one locust and three pigeon peas. The locust actually started sprouting in my closet, where I had them sitting for the first few days to germinate. #bonsai

We had a few really cold days here, and the linen closet was the warmest place in the house.

Busy books are great for car rides, waiting rooms, or any time you need to keep little hands busy. I made this one relatively small, with the pages only measuring 7x7", which makes it easy for toddlers to hold on to and easy to pack in a diaper bag or backpack.
Introduction to Busy Books
When my best friend told me she was pregnant, I immediately started making a list of things I could knit and sew for my first godchild. The list quickly got out of control, and had to be narrowed down to the most practical items that I could feasibly finish making before the due date. I ended up making some bibs, a carseat poncho, a couple different blankets, and probably some other things I'm forgetting.

Cakes done, and I get to lick the cream cheese icing off the spoon because no one else is around right now, lol. The recipe is for a 2 layer cake, but I always make 2 single layers because my kid doesn't like nuts and raisins in his carrot cake, and I think that's a crime.

Recipes below.

My partner's birthday is coming up, and I always make him carrot cake. I can't bring myself to buy just enough carrots when I can get 3lbs of carrots for the same price. So I grate what I need and cut the rest up for snacks.

Today, I started writing about the busy book I sewed. Then I had to find photos on dropbox... where *every photo I have ever taken* auto-uploads into one folder.

I have yet to emerge from dropbox. But here are some photos I found. Follow me if you want to (eventually) see how I made this.
