It’s still PSG, I think a fairer point to make is until 4-2 we managed two open play shots the really well worked goal and the long distance one from Bentancur. Our 3rd open play shot was RKM goal in the 72nd minute

Bar Liverpool we would expect to have the vast majority of possession in every game between now and the new year. You might say not Newcastle but they are at 45% at home
November 27, 2025 at 1:04 PM
I do think games where we have less of the ball but maintain dynamism are where Frank succeeds I don’t think it tells us much about the coming fixtures. Things to take but tactically very different challenges.
November 27, 2025 at 1:04 PM
With 2 of Bergvall Sarr Gray theoretically we defend the edge of our box worse in terms of what the belief is around players natural strengths and d weakness but also we are defending that atrociously because of how passive anyway.
November 27, 2025 at 12:29 PM
Bergvall is the one with genuine star potential.
November 27, 2025 at 12:27 PM
Sarr is a squad level player for where we want to go, he also offers real pluses in certain games I kind of think to how United had Darren Fletcher under Fergie who would come into bolster dynamism and pressing for certain games.
November 27, 2025 at 12:26 PM
I don’t think Frank will ever be the guy and this likely lasts a year but he can do something important in giving them minutes. There is nothing to gain from Pahlinha playing really. The decision to bring him on at 5-3 down was absurd.
November 27, 2025 at 12:25 PM
Issue is I don’t trust Lange and Paratici to get the decisions right.
November 27, 2025 at 12:13 PM
Other point Though how Deki and in particular Maddison recover from those injuries will determine if we this would take 2 or 3/4 windows to build.

If we play a back 3 with Vuskovic back we will need a 5th cb for depth and how likely that Takai is that guy is impossible to know right now.
November 27, 2025 at 12:13 PM
Ironically I am saying play the kids across this season then assuming only Bergvall will be starting level next season but that’s how young they are. The fact we need them to start now really speaks to real weakness in the squad.
November 27, 2025 at 12:13 PM
So in terms of positions I think we need

Back up LB
Starting 6
Back up 6 (could be a passing 8 if Gray develops towards being a 6 but he looks more box to box 8 at this point)
LW
Striker

If we get good development from the kids and Vuskovic comes back then I think we have a core.
November 27, 2025 at 12:13 PM
In exactly the last two months we have 3 wins in all competitions that’s 13 games there is nothing to lose. Frank doesn’t have the Poch I’ll do it my way option but he can at least buy patience playing the kids.
November 27, 2025 at 11:59 AM
Give Tel and Odobert loads of minutes as well and let’s find out how good these kids can become. I do think they are better than Mason Townsend and Bentaleb were when Poch did that.
November 27, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Finishing Pahlinha and Bentancur gives us nothing to build on just a bad season. With one who won’t be here next season if we are smart and if he is will be older and worse and one that will be here but will also be older and worse.
November 27, 2025 at 11:53 AM
I would happily say here is the season you two are the starters go out there and develop we will play you through mistakes.
November 27, 2025 at 11:38 AM
I said before the game I think it was rotation the reason we don’t see that double pivot occasionally is there are loads of games and Pahlinha and Bentancur aren’t young players. I think it will be Pahlinha plus another on Saturday. With the pivot back vs Newcastle
November 27, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Newcastle are 15th for home possession.
November 27, 2025 at 11:33 AM
Liverpool and Fulham are the only sides we are facing averaging over 50% possession. I don’t count Forest who will be under 50% next week and are just artificially high due to Ange.
November 27, 2025 at 11:33 AM
So we need to take the positives but this game may exist in isolation the way the City game has proven to in the league bad Liverpool we don’t face another possession dominant side this side of Christmas.
November 27, 2025 at 11:33 AM
The issue is these lessons need to then be put into an entirely different tactical set up and framework a 4-2-2-2 with pressers as 10s, low possession set up isn’t one for most games.
November 27, 2025 at 11:33 AM
It was a better performance and we had far more intensity and intent. What I would say is a game with 33% possession doesn’t tell us much for other games. In the same way city away was lower than this one but one of our highest xGs of the season. But at least we are able to do Frank things better.
November 27, 2025 at 11:19 AM
I am aware this sounds ultra negative but this is kinda of the stuff I expected Frank to be able to do, it’s better than the last few weeks when we didn’t do that but it doesn’t alter my perspective about the long term. Though it does lesson the likelihood this comes to a head immediately.
November 27, 2025 at 12:16 AM
That said after the weekend it’s much better and you wouldn’t expect more than that against PSG just feel it might exist in a vacuum in a way City did before it
November 27, 2025 at 12:10 AM
I just don’t think saying we performed better in a low possession game tells us much about Fulham this weekend, players can take individual performances and the energy and intensity forward but this showed we can do Frank things much better my concern has always been about the limits of those things
