I enjoy all the meats of our cultural stew.

London-based. Film, television, games, politics, Charlton Athletic Football Club.

He/him.
Does Robbie Gibb know this??

Sudden flashback to being asked to use a rotary phone as a ~8 year old for adults’ amusement. That thing made no sense!

It’s nice that people think we’re* young enough that we wouldn’t remember the Argos catalogue, I guess, though I think we’d actually have to be like… twelve?

*I’m 33 but let me have this.

Yeah, the people I know in and around law aren’t relaxed about it, but they do seem to see it as broadly necessary.

I’d say it must be how old colleagues of Matt Goodwin feel but I think that’s simultaneously very harsh on my friend and kind on Goodwin.

It was quite interesting when an old schoolfriend became a prominent character on here yesterday. I didn’t really agree with him, at all, but it allowed me to conceive of someone on the opposing side as nuanced and human in a way you obviously otherwise wouldn’t.

Yeah, it’s easily the worst season of The Wire *and* still really good telly. It’s simply no longer transcendent.

Rachel Reeves, puppetmaster. Watch as she makes the UK’s political machinery dance to her tune. That’s right, little journalists, I am shit at my job. Dance, puppets! Dance!

In light of who is saying this & where it’s being published, this is a pretty serious indicator that the political class is in a middle of a serious intellectual & emotional crisis

They’re starting to inch closer to the position of elites in the Kingdom of Italy after WW1

(This is also my own personal and probably most Blue Labour view).

Cafes, good. Cafés, bad.

I helped clear out houses on a few occasions. Best finds:
1) £35,000 cash (had/got to carry it to the bank in a briefcase).
2) Every (?) issue of Sight & Sound (family did *not* want but was listed in will).
3) Old photos of a woman who looked uncannily like my now wife (chilling).

Yeah, there’s a nod to it in the first and I imagine it will loop fully around before long. But the new films don’t feel like a universe in which the plan to populate a new planet is “I dunno, send three dudes and one woman, that checks out.”

This feels… new. Describing minorities (children!) living in fear as desirable.

Yep, agreed. I’m occupying a weird quantum state here because I did notice it in the film in question but more broadly, the film managed to carry you off somewhere without you noticing? It’s already won.

Michael Clayton needed more pitched battles is what you’re saying?

This isn’t strictly relevant but can we talk about Benoit Blanc’s housecoat in Glass Onion?

Spicy take: Rogue One is *worse* after Andor because it shows how good pure, uncut Gilroy is.

And frankly the CG resurrection is just as deplorable as Alien: Romulus and just as unnecessary because they had an adequate replacement on set with his face covered in dots.

Somebody might put him in charge of something important off the back of this. Maybe even public health related!
