monstera siltepecana. I got a rooted cutting as a party favor last year along with a cebu blue pothos. I think the leaf size has regressed a bit from the biggest they reached (mistakes were made) but they're not doing too bad now

I would not know where to go in Brooklyn to get this kind of male support outside of a place of worship. What’s more, many men I know are actively hostile to open discussion of the most difficult subjects. In the lead-up to the retreat, I asked a male friend to tell me the three things he most disliked about me; he assured me such honesty could only do our relationship harm. And so, like most men, I called on women for my most vulnerable conversations. I do not think my experience is anomalous. To offer just one example: Another friend of mine is in a book club of new dads and recently proposed the group read a guide on how to be better fathers. “It was absolutely shot down,” he told me. “The guys didn’t want to go there when we could be having a chill time.”

probably the biggest upgrade was following the very specific instructions in the Zōjirushi manual for rinsing. it's a lot more specific than the "rinse a few times until water runs clear" method people parrot

Clean rice quickly. Prepare a bowl to pool water. 1. Rinse rice First, pour plenty of water into the Inner Cooking Pan from the bowl and stir the rice loosely by hand. Drain the water immediately afterwards. Repeat twice. 2. Wash rice Wash by stirring the rice by hand 30 times, pour plenty of water from the bowl and stir the rice loosely again. Drain the water immediately. Repeat this washing process 2-4 times. 3. Rinse rice Lastly, pour plenty of water from the bowl and rinse the rice. Repeat twice. (Complete steps 1-3 within 10 minutes.) Warning! Do not clean the rice or adjust the amount of water using hot water (95°F/35°C or above). Doing so will cause the rice to be cooked improperly. Sánchez, the organizer of the flight, has touted the all-female crew as a win for women. But she herself is a woman in a deeply antifeminist model. It is not her rocket company that took her and her friends to the edge of space; it's her male fiance's. And it is no virtue of her character that put her inside the rocket not her capacity, not her intellect and not her hard work but merely her relationship with a man. (The fact that the rocket itself looks phallic does not help to lessen the flight's message that the surest way for women to raise themselves in the world is to attach themselves to a man.) There are at least two women on the mission who can be credited as serious persons: Aisha Bowe, an aerospace engineer, and Amanda Nguyen, a civil rights entrepreneur whose past work with Nasa makes her something closer to an actual astronaut. But most of the crew's self-presentation and promotion of the flight has leaned heavily on a vision of women's empowerment that is light on substance and heavy on a childlike, girlish silliness that insults women by cavalierly linking their gender with superficiality, vanity and unseriousness.

Mattie Lubchansky, an Ignatz Award–winning cartoonist, author, and illustrator, describes herself as “a primarily joke-posting kind of person.” The humor-detection issue of Bluesky is part of a broader phenomenon she has observed, which she calls “riff collapse.” The day after the 2025 Oscars, Lubchansky posted: “i haven't seen any of the oscar movies this year, nor have i seen any movie ever made. i'm afraid that the people trapped inside the screen will be angry at me for not helping them escape; and once they are out i will be punished. anyway, here's how the awards validated an opinion i already had.” The replies that followed were earnest opinions and arguments about Oscar-nominated films. Some people asked for movie recommendations. Some unironically recommended she check out The Purple Rose of Cairo. Only a handful of people seem to have understood that she was joking. Lubchansky says she sees this type of “riff collapse” happen daily, and she thinks it’s because of the influx of new users from Meta and X.
