Of course modern SpongeBob staff absolutely cares significantly about their work and I'm sure the people making new Peanuts stuff do too but there's a sense of conforming to expectations about what the series Should Be because its classic years are so integral to the public idea

Yeah you definitely get the impression new Peanuts media really only exists to keep the IP alive in some form. It's kind of like the state SpongeBob is in, where the cartoon is kind of the least important part of the brand compared to the tie-ins

I was talking with friends the other day about how SSB4 and Ultimate arrangements have a different "vibe" than Brawl and it really comes down to the music in Brawl all distinctly being From Brawl while the later games just sound like a collection of remixes with no attempt at cohesion

It's a combination I think of his being the easiest to explain and the name rhyming with "bland" getting the idea across sonically
