Magic 106.7 switched to all Christmas music earlier this week. It's absolute madness.

I saw them two years ago, and they were so, so great.

Not that I was ever not uncool! Nor that the Beatles didn't have their detractors. But it was never, ever built into Alternative Nation that they were the enemy, the stuff you rebelled against your parents for listening to. There was a whole album of alt-rock royalty playing Beatles (cover) songs!

Even the (second) lowest-profile act on it -- the Pointer Sisters -- stayed on the radar thanks to LOVE ACTUALLY (another Christmas project, interestingly). That was one exceptionally well-curated lineup. You can see just how rare by comparing it to the lineup on any later AVSC album.

One of the most amazing things about AVSC is that with the exception of Alison Moyet (who's great! Yaz is great!), every single artist on it continues to enjoy some sort of continued longevity on the pop cultural landscape, whether it's the ability to still pack stadiums or mix-station ubiquity.

That one seems less about union rules/Hollywood antisemitism than his parents being clowns. [looks up Brooks père] Right.
