For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

Here, as with the dems in congress, the republicans know exactly how to use the slow, careful, ass-covering methods of our institutions against them.
It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.”

University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

Right now we don’t need you to try and be someone else. This moment in history needs people who are dedicated to being themselves prophetically, who use their gifts to make the world a more beautiful, tender place in the midst of chaos, oppression and hate.

Invest in your gifts.

We need you.

Reminding myself
I do think it’s super important right now and in the foreseeable future to really value moments of joy and to be intentional about making as many of them as you can

There's so much angst and despair radiating all around us. This is wholly understandable, but if something's giving you warmth or strength (even just a bit), be sure to uplift that as well. Help others remember that kindness, solidarity, and care are still at work in the world.
