Been correcting Sonic Retro's Wiki when perusing through code / graphics of the Mainline games, for example:
The gif used for the whistle animation is speculative, the game still has animation data for it that goes unused. (the same can't be said about the sleep idle)
This is carried over at TCRF

www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBBq... I still think about the launch stream we did for this back when it came out. Lot of old Sonic heads oo'ing and ahh'ing at things that got restored or fixed. I didn't even know the Chemical Plant doors were incorrectly drawn on original hardware until this stream.
