Sayce is right that DWP has a “mixed culture”. Many staff want to “learn and improve” but others are of the Couling victim-blaming defensive mould. Good to see this rejected by Pat McFadden, but while it prevails among top CS real change will remain elusive.

Indeed. I think the valid critique is whether in the real world politicians would actually implement the fiscal response required.

Yes. My admittedly limited understanding is that in current conditions, for example, with high inflation, it would require gov to raise taxes. Which as we can see is really unpopular during a COL crisis caused by inflation. Would politicians really do that or would they just keep printing £££?

I am so tired of waiting.
Aren't you,
for the world to become good
and beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
and cut the world in two-
and see what worms are eating
at the rind.

Come away, O human child!

To the waters and the wild

With a faery, hand in hand,

For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
