Way past time for Target to step up.
At a protest rally in a small Indiana town this afternoon - a fair amount of supportive honking/thumbs-up/waving, a few birds, and then this one guy who kept driving past, yelling stuff out his window about shooting us down. Yeah. That'll show us and make America great.

The moment it was crystal clear we were in the worse case scenario, was exactly a year ago when Trump pardoned every single Jan 6 perpetrator, including the ones that beat the crap out of cops and were convicted of seditious conspiracy.

Last week I had to go into a Target and the ambient music was contemporary country. This week I had to go into a Wal-Mart and a relatively obscure Roxy Music song was followed by an even more obscure Peter Gabriel song. I'm not even pretending to understand anything anymore.

It drives me crazy that all the earnest AI/bot posts on FB are written in the same tone, same cadence, regardless of topic. Okay, it's also a handy way to spot a fake, but sheesh.

Some dreams are so bad that they wake me up in the middle of the night and stick around like a hangover all the next day. Still haven't shaken it.

Just to follow up on an earlier post about problematic social media/other "immediate" communications - once again I received condolences via text within a couple of hours of the death of a near relative. At least this time I had been alerted approximately beforehand. Etiquette has its place.

I am doing 12 hand-wrought iterations of a thing, and I think it tells you everything you need to know about my interior dialogue that, instead of considering each version delightfully imperfect, I am deeming each one inadequate and unsatisfactory. Anyway. Happy holidays.

I got myself in a tizzy yesterday over thoughts that the 2 abstract paintings I bought from a local estate sale company were by someone kinda famous. I had the audacity to contact the artist, and he thought they might be his. Haven't heard back since I sent pix, tho, so 😕. At least I love them.

How about this one? What do you call a dentist's office staff that calls to confirm on Thursday for an appointment on the following Monday, only to tell us on arrival (1.5 hour drive each way) that the dentist is out on vacation for the week - with no appointment openings for 2 weeks?

What do you call a US post office that hasn't delivered a single piece of mail to a locked street box for 4 months? (We even sent mail to ourselves to double-check.) I am trying to muster kindness and understanding as the postmaster keeps promising that everything is fixed.

One delightful and unexpected feature of scaled quail life is that coveys stick together for the better part of a year, so it's typical to see 10-13 quail when they're out foraging. Just now I saw what appeared to be 2 combined coveys (about 25 birds) scratching under the feeder. Amazing!

I bought Thomas Dolby's UK single "One of Our Submarines"/"She Blinded Me with Science" and the LP "The Golden Age of Wireless" at the beginning of 1983 in London. I find myself haunted by that chilly, angular, melancholic-yet-upbeat soundscape again these days. Sounds and smells - direct pathways*

What the hell? #Priya changed their ginger pickle (with garlic) recipe without even bothering to mention it And I Am Upset. Why does the sun keep on shining? There is so little reliable perfection in the world and this one taste was a constant joy in my life for about 40 years.
