There is a little story of the first attack I took part in last November after getting back to the outfit from the Hospital...We took Kirchberg and were the first U.S. troops to reach the Roer River - That was your birthday present. You didn't know you got a present did you?"

Nov 14, 1950 The first pilot to shoot down an opposing jet in the world's first jet-versus-jet fighter duel in aviation history tonight said that the Soviet MIG 15 back-swept wing jet, one of which he shot down, is at least 100 miles faster than the American Shooting Star jet which he was flying.
