It certainly looks like the approach from City is to lawyer 'opponents' into submission. I wonder how enthused the Commission might be to be drawn into an internecine scrap of this kind.

I suspect that's true. I don't know enough (yet) about the law in this area to make an assessment. Politically, the Commission has been supportive of FFP/FSR, and I wonder if it would regard adding another layer of complexity as being unhelpful to that cause.

A further rise with new leadership in 2020 with decline-bump-decline through to, and after, GE 2024.

This seems to be a pattern for the Labour Party over the recent past. A bump associated with a new and/or general election, followed by subsequent decline. A big rise in 2015 into 2016 coinciding with the GE, new leader AND further leadership contest followed by a decline before a 2019 GE bump.

So, UK Govt increases spending on e.g. transport, there's a corresponding uplift for Scotland? I've been dimly aware of Barnett, but not au faint with the detail.

Ah, thanks, but I'm right in thinking that Rachel Reeves wouldn't have been in a position to provide the funding referred to under present arrangements?

Genuine question - I don't have mastery of the detail by any s stretch of the imagination - but am I wrong in thinking that ports and ferries etc are a devolved matter?

Government has no control over sports governing bodies; they are self-regulatory. See Thatcher's attempts to coerce the British Olympic Association to boycott Moscow in 1980, for example.

The Labour vote is certainly concentrated in West Bridgford and surrounds, meaning the Tories tend to dominate local government because of FPTP. The writing was on the wall for the incumbent with Rushcliffe returning majorities for both Labour's PCC and East Midlands Mayoral candidates in May.

A terrible MP. Big on photo ops, short on action. West Bridgford isn't particularly representative of the constituency as a whole, though, which is more semi-rural in nature and with significant pockets of deprivation.

Quite. I'm no scholar of the language of law, but the major part of my job as a teacher of it is helping students learn how to encode/decode from/to 'ordinary' expression.
