GN/DK/US to do high-level commission on Greenland

The Danes have hit the US with our secret weapon: drown them in bureaucracy and yet another commission where we will discuss the same thing over and over, only for it to drag out endlessly

Maybe the perfect way to deal with Trump??

Press conference just finished following DK/GN visit to White House.

Key takeaways:

- high-level commission will discuss ways forward, trying to reach an agreement over the next months

- “we agree to disagree”: US still wants Greenland, DK/GN say it’s a red line

Had a great time talking to @goldbergradio.bsky.social on @bylinepodcast.bsky.social!

We deep dived into the complicated relationship between Greenland and Denmark, the role of Europe and the UK in responding to Trump and dog sled patrols🇬🇱❄️🐶

Amidst all the focus on Greenland, it is important to not lose sight of the UK's long term foreign policy interests.

I wrote about the importance of building better partnerships with African countries, what the new 'Africa Approach' might mean and how to deliver on it👇

“Is Greenland next?” Watching the US attack on Venezuela from Denmark, Sofie saw a familiar pattern: defence as the excuse, resources as the prize. This isn’t about security — it’s about control of Arctic territory.

On Sunday, Trump said that "We do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defence".

But similar to how Venezuela wasn't just about drugs, Greenland is about more than defence.

Let's unpack the US-DK-Greenland situation… A thread👇

Another Christmas, another threat of annexing #Greenland..

This time around we cannot simply hold our breath and wait for the US to focus elsewhere.

Greenland decides the future of their own country, and the Danish Foreign Office has a duty to do what they must to protect and honour that right🇬🇱🇩🇰

Talked to @sheriffb.bsky.social about the UK’s new Africa Approach launched earlier this week.

I argue that while the approach is ambitious in scope, there remains too many unanswered questions around delivery, funding and political prioritisation👇
Britain’s Africa reset meets a crowded field. Can it deliver?
With China, Turkiye and Gulf states expanding their footprint, the UK is selling partnership over aid, but analysts say visibility, capital and consistency will decide its relevance.

This ranking comes at such an interesting time though - Frederiksen’s ratings has reached an historic low at home and we are heading into an election year..🗳️

African governments are now spending on average 17% of all revenues on servicing debts. This is money that should be going to schools, climate adaptation and poverty reduction.

That’s why ambitious action on debt and cost of capital will be absolutely key when South Africa hosts G20 in November!

Next year I will be eligible for citizenship in the UK.

And for the first time I’m wondering whether I should apply “just in case” given the current political climate and statements like these.

But do I want to become a citizen just out of fear of losing my rights? Not really..
