And so, on this International Cat Day, don’t just honor them with cute pictures and an extra treat (though they’ll love that). Honor them by being their eyes! Their voices! Their stewards!

Keep the wild in your hearts, your mind, your body! #WildCats #Conservation #BigCats #InternationalCatDay

It is up to us to fight back.
Land defenders. Indigenous nations and peoples. Activists. Researchers.
Every single one of us must refuse to look away.

Support them. Fund them. House them. Share their work. Stand tall and proud with your fellow humans and with cats and all wildlife!

Conservation groups right now are often outspent, out-lobbied, and outmaneuvered by oil giants, agribusiness, and investors whose only “interest” in nature is extractive. They possess compassion and zeal, but critically lack manpower.

While it is good though to be more mindful of ourselves on an individual level, I will also avoid “greenwashing” anything too much, though. We can all live more sustainably, we can be more eco-conscious, but this is ultimately a corporate-driven collapse.

Groups such as Panthera, the Felidae Conservation Fund, the Snow Leopard Trust, the WildCats Conservation Alliance (just to name a few) work tirelessly to protect these cats and the ecosystems they inhabit!

Boosting their numbers and their messages will go a long way to help these cats!

As of 2025, over 80% of wild cat species are declining in population, with some still critically endangered despite conservation efforts. It is easy to get caught up in numbers. But these are real lives. This is real beauty. This is real loss.

But not all is gloomy! There is good work being done!

However, these glorious species all face a dire reality. Like many other species, cats face:

Rampant habitat loss from deforestation and human encroachment,
Poaching and illegal wildlife trade,
Human-wildlife conflict,
And climate change disrupting food sources, migration patterns, and behaviors.

From my favorites, the snow leopards and tigers, to the clouded leopards, jaguars, the lions, and so many more, wild cats are vital to the ecosystems they inhabit.

They are apex predators, guardians of balance, and symbols of strength, beauty, and the natural world across cultures and peoples.
